Donna Jean Wood

June 21, 1941 — October 24, 2016

Donna Jean Wood was born in Yuma, Colorado to Ora & Esther “Watson” Richardson on June 21, 1941. She attended school from grade 1 until high school graduation at Yuma. She then went to Sterling, Colorado where she attended the local Secretarial School. This is where she met and later married Clifton Randal Wood on December 14, 1959 in Sidney, Nebraska.

Donna began her career in the food service industry at the young age of 14 where she would peel potatoes and provide any kitchen work that needed to be done at the local Yuma café. She worked a number of years in various restaurants and cafes throughout Northeast Colorado and Southwest Nebraska. She then went on to receive her certification in Dietary Management from McCook Community College. Donna worked a number of years at the Heritage of Wauneta as a Dietary Manager. From there she moved to Imperial Nebraska to become the Dietary Manger of Chase County Community Hospital where she worked until her retirement.

Donna was very active and enjoyed her various clubs and organizations. She was involved in TOPS, ABATE, the Eagles, Red Hat Society, and the Birthday Club. She enjoyed volunteering at the Imperial Senior Center and spending much time chatting with “the girls”. She was also an active member at the First United Methodist Church in Imperial. Donna was recently baptized by two of her son-in-law’s.

Not only did Donna enjoy her clubs and organizations she had a great love for flowers, herbs, feeding birds & squirrels. She also enjoyed cooking, recipe& cookbook collecting, reading, music, traveling, and cheering for the Colorado Buffalos as well as the Denver Broncos.

Donna “Richardson” Wood, 75, of Imperial, Nebraska, passed away on Monday October 24, 2016 in her home.

She is preceded in death by her parents, former husband, grandson Andrew Wood, longtime companion Nick Newman, and friend Mark McCannon.

Donna is survived by children Karen (Larry) Dec air of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, Sharon (Jerry) Littre of Davenport, Nebraska, Darrin (Tanya) Wood of Rochester, Minnesota, Staci Lawless of Lincoln, Nebraska, Barbie (Michael) Long of McCook, Nebraska, and son-in-law Kenny Lawless of Wauneta, Nebraska; Grandchildren Alyssa (Martin) Leslie, Gene (Matt) Molenkamp, Billy Unganshick, Tiffeny (Israel) Bentch, Shiloh Littrel, Jonathon, Jack, & Alex Wood, Shane Lawless, Landen (Katie) Lawless, Asher & Asa Long; great-Grandchildren, Marty Leslie, Gage & Jaidyn Mollenkamp, Elijah, Elizabeth, & Emily Bentch, Madison, Emma, & Rylee Littrel, & Ensley Lawless; Sibling & her children Beverly Jo (Terry) Fritz of Yuma, Colorado, Greg (Misty) Fritz, Jeff Fritz, Sage (Sheila) Fritz, & Ashley Fritz; and great nieces Stacia, Kailey, Angel, & Shaylynn Fritz.

The family of Donna wishes to extend our sincere thanks to her special gal pals Lorna Kunneman, Deb Tidwell, Patty Thompson, Arlene Eskew, Shirley Gardner, Barb Hogsett, & all her good friends for being there for our mother when we could not. We appreciate all that you did for her. She loved you all dearly.

Memorial services will be 2:00 P.M. (MT), Friday afternoon, October 28, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church of Imperial with Pastors Dirk Weiss and Melody Newman officiating. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date.

No visitation; cremation was chosen.

A memorial has been established in Donna’s name.
