Alberta “Bertie” Mae Main was born February 18, 1924, in Cheyenne County, Kansas, to Guy G. and Ivy Myrtle (Farrens) Burkhalter. As a young girl she attended country school in Cheyenne County to the eighth grade.

Bertie, as she was known, married Guy V. Main on June 8, 1937 and to this union three sons were born: Glenard, John, and Gary. The couple settled and made the Benkelman, Nebraska area their home for many years.

Bertie was a member of the Benkelman Presbyterian Church, and a long time employee of Paul’s IGA Grocery Store. She was gifted in sewing quilting and gardening.

Bertie passed away early Thursday morning, April 21, 2016, at the Sarah Ann Hester Memorial Home in Benkelman, NE. She was 92 years of age.

WA, Michael Main of Plano, TX, Sherry (Claude) Taylor of Atlanta, NE
3 Great-Grandchildren: Jessica and Kayla Skinner of Texas and Jonathan McMillian of
Washington.
Sisters: Donna (Doss) Taynor of Benkelman, NE and Shirley (Toot) Warning Lyon of
Tuskahoma, OK.
Numerous Nieces and Nephews
Brother-In-Law: Leonard Main and wife, Rita, of Nampa Valley, ID

Bertie was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Iva Burkhalter; husband Guy, brothers, Albert “Bus”, and Arthur “Dude” Burkhalter, and sister; Marjorie Westrand Lockwood.

Memorial services will be held Monday morning, May 23rd, 2016, 11:00 A.M. (Mountain Time) at the Benkelman Community Building, Benkelman, NE, with Rev. Marcine Farmer PMA officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Benkelman Cemetery, Benkelman, NE
