Alfred W. Melchert was born in Stratton, Nebraska on May 3, 1934 to Anna (Bauerle) Melchert and Lawrence Melchert. He grew up in Stratton and graduated from Stratton High School in 1953.
He joined the United States Navy in 1956 and served for two years. He married Burdean Geihsler in Oberlin, Kansas on May 26, 1956. The couple lived in Corpus Christi, Texas for one year before settling in Stratton in 1957. After farming for two years and running a filling station for one year Al opened his own car business in 1961, A&B Motors. He would run and operate A&B Motors until his death; working on and being around cars was his greatest hobby and passion.
Alfred passed away Sunday afternoon, September 17, 2017 at his home is Stratton. He was 83 years of age.
Preceding him in death are his father and mother, and eldest son, Steve.

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. (CT), Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the United Methodist Church in Stratton with Pastor Rod Heilbrun and Mr. Richard Stahly officiating. Interment will follow in the Trenton Cemetery, Trenton, Nebraska.
Visitation will be Friday afternoon, September 22, 2017 from 2:00-5:00 P.M. (CT) at the United Methodist Church in Stratton.
A Memorial has been established in Alfred’s memory.
