Amy Harris
Amy Evelyn Harris was born to Wayland P. Smith and Edna Frances (Maucher) Smith Johnson on September 24, 1919 in Chase County, Nebraska. She attended school through the eighth grade. Amy was united in marriage to Clyde Arthur Harris on September 23, 1939 in St. Francis, Kansas. The couple settled first in rural Chase County before moving to Grant, Nebraska in 1960 and to Imperial, Nebraska in 1986.
Amy was a farm wife, restaurant cook, nurse’s aide, housecleaner, and a babysitter for her great-grandchildren. In addition to working outside the home, she enjoyed quilting, playing cards and Scrabble. Amy was a great cook and truly enjoyed cooking for her friends and family. She will always be remembered for her fried chicken, chicken and dumplings, chocolate cake, and baking special pies for everyone on their birthdays.
Amy passed away Wednesday morning, June 24, 2015, at the Imperial Manor Nursing Home in Imperial. She was 95 years of age.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clyde, sisters: Mable Gregg, Celia Coleman, Mildred Fisher and Ida Belle Johnson; brother, John Smith; son-in-law, Lawrence Hogsett and grandson-in-law, Clemente Sanchez.
Survivors include: Daughter: Barbara Hogsett of Imperial, NE Daughter: Frances Lewis and Husband, John, of Wauneta, NE 4 Grandchildren: Connie Lewis Doffin and husband, Greg; David Hogsett and wife, Rita; Lonnie Lewis and wife, Mary; and Brenda Hogsett Sanchez. 9 Great-Grandchildren: Jessica Sanchez; Adan Sanchez; Sable Barnes Weander and husband, Nick; Megan Barnes Fletcher and husband, Drew; Staci Hogsett; Daniel Hogsett; Andrea Hogsett; Eric Lewis and Mia Lewis. 2 Great-Great-Grandchildren: Liam Fletcher and Griffin Fletcher Best Friends and Neighbors Tim and Tammy May and family.
Funeral services for Amy Harris will be 10:30 A.M. (Mountain Time) Saturday morning, June 27th, 2015, at the Crossroads Wesleyan Church of Imperial with Pastors Todd Burpo and Phil Harris officiating. Interment will follow at Blanche Cemetery in Rural Chase County.
Visitation will be Friday afternoon, June 26th, 2015, from 2:00-6:00 P.M. (Mountain Time) at the funeral home in Imperial.
A memorial has been established to the Blanche Cemetery in Rural Chase County.
