Arlene Criger Arlene Gay (Edwards) Criger was born December 24, 1943, in Benkelman, Nebraska, to Alvin and Doris Madeline (Wilson) Edwards. Arlene (affectionately known as “Pudders”) graduated from Max Rural High School , Max, Nebraska, in 1961, and then she went on to beauty school in McCook. On December 20, 1964, Arlene married Doyle Dean Criger at Zion Lutheran Church in Benkelman. To this union, two sons were born: Jimmy Doyle and Todd Dean. The family settled in Benkelman and Arlene worked as a custodian for Dundy County Public Schools. Arlene enjoyed knitting and word puzzles, and especially having coffee with her friends. She was a member of the Eastern Star and Zion Lutheran Church in Benkelman. Arlene passed away Monday morning, July 14th, 2014, at the Dundy County Hospital, Benkelman. She was 70 years of age. Arlene was preceded in death by her father Alvin Edwards; and brother Oren Edwards. Survivors Include: Mother: Doris Edwards of Benkelman, NE. Sons: Jimmy Doyle Criger of McCook, NE. Todd Criger of McCook, NE. Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Funeral Services will be held Friday, July 18th, 2014, 10:30 A.M. (MT) at the Zion Lutheran Church of Benkelman, with Jim Gleason officiating. Interment will follow at the Benkelman Cemetery, Benkelman, NE. Visitation will be held Thursday afternoon, July 17th, 2014, 2:00 P.M. -6:00 P.M. (MT) at the Zion Lutheran Church of Benkelman, NE. A memorial has been established to the Benkelman Senior Center.
