Arlyn "Arnie" Myers

Arlyn Edgar Myers was born May 16, 1941, to George and LaVon (Nelson) Myers, at Hawarden, Iowa. Arnie, as he was known, grew up in Iowa, graduating from Hawarden High School in 1959.

Arnie traveled from Iowa on an actual John Deere Tractor, with a construction company, to Benkelman, Nebraska, in 1962. Two years later he married Pauline Hilbrink on February 14, 1964, at the Wray Methodist Church in Wray, Colorado. The couples settled in Benkelman and have been longtime residents. Arnie was employed in several different locations including the Benkelman Airport for Vinton Jones, the Nebraska State Department of Roads, Dundy County Department of Roads, and Valley Farm John Deere for 39 years as a mechanic.
Arnie retired in 2010.

Arnie was very active in his community, severing on the Senior Center Board, the City of Benkelman Zoning Board, and the Benkelman Volunteer Fire Department, which he was fire Chief for one year, Assistant Fire Chief, and a member for 44 years. He was a member of the Benkelman United Methodist Church for 52 years, severing on many church boards. Arnie was also very active in the Odd Fellows Lodge of Benkelman, a member for 54 years, and a Rebecca Lodge member for 53 years.

Arnie passed away Thursday evening, June 16, 2016 at the Dundy County Hospital, Benkelman, NE. He was 75 years of age.

Daughter, Diane Urwiler and husband, Scott, of Laurel, NE
Son, Dale Myers and wife, Michelle, of Benkelman, NE
5 Grandchildren: Aurora, Evan, and Faith Urwiler of Laurel, NE
Jera and Quade Myers of Benkelman, NE
Brother, Daryl Myers and wife, Lonnie, of Akron, IA
Sister, Marlene Smith of Garner, NC
Sister, Joanne Waterbury of Akron, IA
Brother-in-law, Clifford Hilbrink of Kensington, KS
Sisters-in-law: Irene and Ijean Hilbrink and Evelyn Schultz all of Smith Center, KS
Several Aunts, Uncles, nieces and nephews

Arnie was preceded in death by his parents, George and LaVon, and several In-Laws.


Funeral Services will be 10:30 A.M. (Mountain Time), Tuesday morning, June 21, 2016 at the United Methodist Church of Benkelman with Pastor Richard Savage officiating. Interment will follow at Benkelman Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday afternoon, June 20, 2016 from 2:00-6:00 p.m. (Mountain Time) at the United Methodist Church in Benkelman.
