Barbara Baney
Barbara Ann Baney was born to Leo and Mary (Bracket) Barnell in Kimball, Nebraska on September 23, 1931. She graduated from Benkelman High School in 1949 and attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. On February 26, 1950 she was united in marriage to Manley Baney in Benkelman, Nebraska.
Barbara worked at the local florist shop in Benkelman after her marriage and also assisted at the Sarah Ann Hester Home as a Gray Lady; wearing a gray uniform and caring for the residents. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Benkelman where she served with the United Methodist Women (UMW) for many years. Barbara was active in the Benkelman Alumni association; she served as treasurer for more than 30 years.
In addition to activities in her community, Barbara loved doing embroidery work on tea towels, table cloths and baby quilts. She enjoyed cross word puzzles, taking care of her flowers and gardening. Barbara always took the time to get together with her high school classmates and loved going on vacations to see different parts if the USA.
Barbara passed away December 17, 2015 at the Dundy County Hospital in Benkelman. She was 84 years of age.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husband, Manley Baney; brother, Charles Barnell and sister, Janet Steinbeck.
Survivors include: son, John Baney and wife, Dianne of Albuquerque, New Mexico; son Mark Baney of Benkelman; grandchildren, Adam Baney and Amanda Chastain; great-grandchildren: Arthur and Sofia Baney and Dexter Risvik;; sister, May Jane Watson & sister-in-law, Joan Barnell.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M. (MT), Monday, February 1, 2016 at the United Methodist Church in Benkelman with Rev. Bonnie McCord officiating. A private family inurnment will follow services in the Benkelman Cemetery.
No visitation; Barbara was cremated.
A memorial has been established in Barbara’s Name.
