Barbara Hanes

November 12, 1935 — January 9, 2025

Benkelman

Barbara Hanes, passed away on January 9, 2025, in Columbus, Nebraska. She was born on November 12, 1935 to Samuel and Mildred (Kephart) Kuhns. Barbara married Elmer Earl Hanes in Parks, NE in 1950. They had three sons Dennis, Jerry and Mark Hanes.

For over twenty years, Barbara worked as an aide at a local hospital, where her compassion and warmth were felt by many. Her career continued to flourish as she transitioned to home health care, a field that allowed her to directly impact the lives of those she served. Barbara's love of people extended beyond her professional life; she was a loving presence within her family.

Barbara loved to read, particularly enjoying the show "Know Your Bible," which reflected her deep faith. She was also an avid crocheter and knitter, frequently creating beautiful garments for her loved ones. Her skills in crafting were matched only by her talent for making clothes, gifts that will be cherished by her family for years to come.

As a member of the Benkelman Baptist Church, Barbara found comfort and joy in her spiritual community, where she loved reading and studying God's Word. Her faith was a guiding force in her life, shaping her values and influencing her interactions with others.

Barbara is survived by her son, Jerry Hanes of Benkelman, NE, and her son Mark (Vicki) Hanes, also of Benkelman, NE, granddaughters, Jessica Mckinney and Jacqueline Hanes, and her great-grandson, Mason Schwartz, sisters Betty (Robert) Campbell of Sterling, CO, and Nina Oakley of Max, NE, step grandchildren Julie, Rick and Scott Keaton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her son Dennis, as well as her brothers Dale, Sammy, and Jerald, and her sister Doris Biggs.

Memorial services will be announced at a later date.
