Byron Albert Johnson

March 25, 1933 — August 17, 2022

Byron Albert Johnson was born March 25, 1933, to Ivar and Susie (Hasson) Johnson in Orchard, Nebraska left this world on August 17, 2022, at the age of 89.

Byron grew up as a farm boy working the fields and tending cattle. He attended Neligh-Oakdale Schools in Nebraska. He was a veteran during the Korean War stationed in Germany. Upon returning home, he attended the University of Nebraska graduating with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Byron spent the next forty years as a civilian contractor in computer systems for the US Government.

He was a lifelong learner and avid reader. His hobbies included astronomy, genealogy and psychological insight. He enjoyed a good polka and dancing to likes of the Glen Miller Band. Byron and family took two genealogy trips to explore the roots of our ancestors in Sweden and Ireland.

Byron was an active member of the Unity Church, participated in the men’s groups, and held numerous positions including the President of the Board of Directors. He was also a member of the Colorado Jung Society.

In his retirement, he took to writing and self-publishing two books on his spiritual journey. He could be found every morning sitting at his computer checking emails and working on his notes.

He will be remembered for the notecards in his shirt pocket, his smile, laugh and the twinkle in his eye especially when he spoke of growing up on the farm and a horse name Blu and dog named Butch. And for all who knew him when asked how he was doing-“Getting better all the time.”

Byron married Wilma Jean Tagel on October 23, 1955. They had two children Jed Johnson and Laurie Johnson who he is survived by.

Byron married Gloria Hearten on August 30, 1985. He is survived by two children Melody Hearten-Johnson and Joy Hearten-Johnson.

Byron is survived by his four children, two grandchildren Teanavai Leanne Coulon and Joshua Thunder Jackson, his sister Kathryn Willats, brother Richard Johnson, Gloria Hearten, extended family, many nieces and nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Lucille Bauerle, Nettie Nordhausen, and brother in law Robert Willats.

Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 24, 2022, at the First United Methodist Church in Imperial with Pastor Debra Copple officiating. Inurnment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Imperial with military honors.
