Cheri Stott
Cheri Lea (Van Meer) Stott was born June 30th, 1970 in Denver, Colorado. She died at her home on October 15, 2011 in Lincoln, Nebraska. Cheri attended grade school in Imperial, Fairfield and Eagle, Nebraska. She attended junior and senior high school in Lincoln, Nebraska. Cheri received her GED at Southeast Community College in Lincoln.
Cheri was baptized as a child in Lincoln and re-baptized at Crossroads Wesleyan Church in Imperial. Cheri grew up in Colorado, Louisiana, Utah and Nebraska. Cheri met her husband Lloyd Stott in Lincoln and the two married at the Church of Christ in Lincoln on January 12, 1989. Three children were born to their marriage: Tiffanee was born in Lincoln, Dominique and Tory were both born in Imperial. A grandson Leon was born to a very proud grandmother called “Nana”.
The Stott family lived in Lincoln, McCook and Imperial. They moved back to Lincoln about a year ago. Cheri worked at the McCook Community Hospital in housekeeping. Cheri received her CNA and Med Aide Certificates and worked at the Imperial Manor Nursing Home 13 years. Cheri was very caring and compassionate to the people she cared for and would get angry if others acted otherwise.
Cheri was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma cancer in 1999, when Tory was an infant. After having reconstructive surgery on her left foot and a year of chemotherapy, Cheri continued to work because she wanted her children to know you could work even if you were disabled. Cheri continued to work until she was physically unable; this saddened Cheri greatly.
Cheri was a great yard-seller; a passion she shared with her “gramma” Johnnie Leach. Rain, snow, sleet or hail if there were yard sales you’d see her there. Cheri loved to fish but fishing with her was always a challenge! If you stood near her you had to be totally silent or, “the fish might not bite”. Cheri was a compassionate and loving woman. She’d speak her mind but could also be very tender. Cheri could be tough as nails yet cry easily at times. She was always available whenever any friends needed help, even if it was 2 A.M. Cheri had an extreme love of animals and would’ve run a humane society at her home if she could have! Cheri had a wicked sense of humor and an infectious laugh.
Cheri is preceded in death by her grandparents: Charlie and Johnnie Leach, father-in-law Harold Stott, brother-in-law Wayne Stott, cousins Dick Creveling and Brad Grantham, uncles Dick Leach and Tommy Leach.
Survivors include husband Lloyd; children Tiffanee, Dominique and Tory Stott; grandson Leon; mother Janette (Leach) Rivers of Imperial, sister Marjie Buls and husband Dean also of Imperial; mother-in-law Pat Stott; sisters-in-law: Melinda Davis, Julie Stott and Teresa Stott; nieces: Ashley Ann Donnar and husband William, Brittney Smith and husband Sterling, Promise Stott, Stephanie Milbourn, Hannah Stott and Megan Davis; nephews: Joshua Reichard, Kevin Davis and Steven Stott. Cheri was a “special” aunt to Jeremiah and Zachary Buls and Jacob Duffy. She was a “special” sister to Jessie Murillo, Corinna Buls, Angel Cain and Tracey Lacey.
Cheri’s children, grandson, husband, mother, sister, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends meant the world to her! Family and friends were something she truly cherished! Cheri will be truly missed.
