Clark McMinn
Clark Erwin McMinn passed away Friday, August 9th at Community Hospital in McCook, Nebraska. He was 82 years old.
Clark was born in the family home in Hamlet, Nebraska September 18th, 1930 to Claude and Eva Boone McMinn. He grew up in Hamlet and lived most of his life there. Clark attended school at the Star country school and later in Hamlet to 8th grade. He had various jobs, from ranch hand to mowing county roads with a team of mules. He attended Electrical trade school in Sterling, Colorado and was working for different electrical contractors before returning to Hamlet in 1977 and worked at the Wauneta Grain Elevator and then was maintenance supervisor at the Wauneta School before retirement.
Clark married Donna Kay Larson July of 1967 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. For work they moved to Colorado and returned to Hamlet community. He enjoyed spending time with family, especially the grandchildren, attending Korean veteran reunions, gardening, woodworking, traveling during retirement and seeing God’s creation. He loved to partake in a good discussion anytime. His honesty and courage and great stories will be sorely missed.
In 1949 Clark enlisted in the Army Reserves, and then was called to active service during the Korean War. He earned 2 purple hearts, Combat Infantry Badge and the Korean service medal with 3 campaign stars. Honorably discharged in 1953, he served our country proudly. He served as post commander of the local VFW, and supported and respected all members of the armed services.
Clark was preceded in death by his parents Claude and Eva McMinn, son Rodney, sister Clarabelle McGillivery, brother Claude, and sister-in-law Helen McMinn.
He is survived by his wife Donna, children Dan and Janice McMinn of Kearney, Rebecca Weldon of Arvada, Colorado, Ben McMinn of Hamlet, Kent and Onista McMinn of Hamlet, grandchildren Korie McMinn, Kyle Baker, Melissa McMinn, Boone McMinn, Claude McMinn, Ethan McMinn and Taylor Weldon, step-grandsons Christopher, Jeremy, and Justin Baker, siblings brother Larence McMinn Hillsboro, KS, sister Virginia Densler McPherson, KS, brother John McMinn Hillsboro, KS, sister-in-law Carol and husband Loren Ford of Greely, Colorado, nieces, nephews and his beloved dog Cody.
Funeral Services will be held 10:00 A.M. (CT), Thursday, August 15th, 2013 and the Palisade United Methodist Church, Palisade, NE with Pastor Bonnie McCord officiating. Interment will follow at Hamlet Cemetery, Hamlet, NE with full military honors.
Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon, 2-6 P.M. (MT), August 14th, 2013 at the funeral home in Wauneta.
