Cynthia L. Norman
Cynthia Lea Norman was born December 11, 1951, in Imperial, Nebraska to Arthur H. and
Elizabethe I. (Leach) Creveling. Cindy graduated from Chase County High School in 1970. As
a young woman, she was an avid swimmer, a member of the cheerleading squad, and was a
Rotary foreign exchange student to Argentina in 1969.
Following high school Cindy attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. On June 1, 1972
she married Donivan (Don) W. Norman of Imperial, Nebraska. They first made their home in
Tempe, Arizona where Cindy finished her college education at Arizona State University,
graduating in 1975 with a degree in Spanish and Latin American Studies.
The couple returned to their hometown in 1976 and welcomed their only son, Donivan C.
Norman on March 19, 1979. Cindy left employment to be a stay-at-home Mom and care for
her son when he was diagnosed with Type-1 Diabetes at the age of 21 months.
Cindy was initiated into The Order of the Eastern Star Imperial Chapter 279 in 1980. She was
very active in the organization and gained many close friends as a result. In 2003 Cindy was
installed as Worthy Grand Matron for the State of Nebraska. During her year of service, she
helped raise more than $21,000 in support of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund and
participated in the organization’s annual fundraising walk in Omaha.
In 2007 Don and Cindy made their home in Lexington, Nebraska where Don was employed by
KRVN Radio. Cindy worked as the Director of the United Way until 2010 when she retired to
care for her parents. Following Don’s retirement in 2020 the couple made their full-time home
in Lincoln, Nebraska where Cindy loved finding new restaurants, shopping for flowers, and
enjoying time with her friends and family.
Cindy loved to travel, experience different cultures, and was a constant learner. She immersed
herself in books throughout her life and was always quick to tell a story. Cindy could always be
counted on to make a joke and be the life of any party. She was especially giving to her family
and friends whether lending her ear, cooking a dinner, or volunteering her time to help with any
project.
