Dallas W Wine

July 21, 1942 — March 12, 2022

Dallas Wine
Dallas Wayne Wine passed away in his home in Imperial, Nebraska on March 12, 2022, at the age of 79. Dallas was born on July 21, 1942, to (Dallas) Glen and Pauline (Flory) Wine in Imperial. His childhood was spent on the family farm northeast of Imperial on Spring Creek with elder sister Glenda, and younger sisters, Dorothy (Dottie) and Sylvia. Dallas was raised in the Enders (Neb.) Church of the Brethren and received a believer’s baptism at age 12.
Dallas was first taught by Pauline at home and finished grade school at the Prairie Schooner School, a one-room school near their home. He graduated from Chase County High School (Class of 1960) where he enjoyed being active in Future Farmers of America.
Dallas earned a degree in agriculture from McPherson College (Kan.) in May 1964. While at college, he met Charlotte Fillmore of Nampa, Idaho. The couple married at the Nampa Church of the Brethren in 1964. Dallas and Charlotte relocated to the Enders, Nebraska, area after Charlotte graduated college in 1965.
While working for the Grosbach family farm, Dallas and Charlotte welcomed two sons, Douglas (Doug) in 1965 and Bruce in 1967. After a few years, Dallas took a job with Kansas Nebraska Natural Gas Company as an appliance installer. In addition, he accompanied the line installation operations, mapping gas lines as they were installed in Imperial and surrounding area.
After welcoming two more sons, Brent in 1969 and Kent in 1971, Dallas and Charlotte purchased the building at 438 Broadway in Imperial, Nebraska, and opened a Sears Catalog store. Dallas provided appliance installation and service, in addition to managing customers’ catalog orders with Charlotte. Two daughters joined the family, Genelle in 1977 and LeAnn in 1978.
After operating the Sears store for 20 years, Dallas continued to provide appliance repair and HVAC installation in new and remodeled homes until retirement.
In addition to his career, Dallas found many opportunities to volunteer. He served as school board member for Chase County High School from 1972-1982. A lifelong church member, Dallas held a variety of leadership roles including a time as moderator for the Enders Church of the Brethren. He served as a board member for the Church of the Brethren Western Plains District. He and Charlotte served as youth advisors for the Enders Church of the Brethren youth.
Dallas and the whole family spent many Memorial Day weekends volunteering at Camp Colorado, a Church of the Brethren camp in Sedalia, Colorado. At camp, Dallas was involved in the construction of several buildings, provided use of his own tools, and supervised maintenance projects.
Family gatherings were special times for Dallas. He valued holidays at his uncles’ and aunt’s farms, extended Wine family reunions, and visits with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. These gatherings offered many of the things Dallas loved to do: join in conversation, share a meal, and work on a jigsaw puzzle.
He was preceded in death by his parents Glen and Pauline and brother-in-law Michael Eagan. He is survived by his wife Charlotte; children Doug (Tandy) of McPherson, Kansas, Bruce (Krista) of Trimble, Missouri, Brent (Elizabeth) of McPherson, Kansas, Kent (Annette) of Phoenix, Arizona, Genelle Bunte (Jonas) of Vienna, Austria, and LeAnn Harnist (Kevin) of Huntley, Illinois; grandchildren Spenser, Dinae (Stephen), Micah (Annie), Adrian, Camden (Jaycee), Bryson, Keenan, Kirsten, Skylar, Alyosia, Blake, Emrys, Timon, Elise, and Flynn; great-grandchildren Brittany, Reuben, Simeon, Mycaiah, Kristiana, Solomon, Evangeline, Jonathan, Izzibella, Malichi, Michael; sisters Glenda Groff (Thayne) of Brookings, Oregon, Dorothy of Lomita, California, and Sylvia Eagan of Portland, Oregon; brothers-in-law Clyde (Bud) Fillmore (Dee) and Steve Fillmore (Cindy) and sisters-in-law Gail Garwick (Howard) and Melanie White (Robert); and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
