DENNIS HANES
Dennis Lee Hanes was born on February 19th, 1952, in Benkelman, Nebraska, to Elmer E. and Barbara D. (Kuhns) Hanes. Dennis was the oldest of three children. As a youngster, he grew up and attended grade school in Benkelman, graduating from Benkelman High School with the class of 1971. After graduation, Dennis moved to Ft. Morgan, Colorado, and worked in the Sugar beet factory for several years. He then returned to Benkelman and was employed by Miller Manufacturing of Stratton, Nebraska, for over 14 years. While working at Miller, he earned his nickname Bull, which he was known from that time on.
Bull moved to Hastings, Nebraska, after the closing of Miller Manufacturing, and worked for Amour Meat Packing Company, and later Adams Feed Yard of Haigler, Nebraska.
Bull will be remembered for his love of playing pool. He was on a local league for several years. He also enjoyed playing PAC Man back in the day. He spent many hours fishing with his brothers and could be found singing karaoke on many Friday nights. Bull was blessed with an amazing voice. He loved the Lord and was baptized in 1964. Once again people enjoyed listening to him sing his favorite hymns. Bull had many passions, including his love for horses and motorcycles. Dennis had a love for children. Later as a resident at the Hester Home one of his highlights was Halloween when the children came trick-or-treating. He also enjoyed dragging Main Street of Benkelman, (as many people knew), in his little white Ford Mustang.
Bull became a resident of the Sarah Ann Hester Home in 2015. He spent many hours crocheting blankets, scarfs, hats, and slippers for many people. While at the Hester home he loved playing games, especially rummy with his brother Jerry and singing karaoke with his many friends. He will be sadly missed by the residents and staff.
Bull passed away Monday afternoon, February 5th, 2018, at the McCook Community Hospital, McCook, Nebraska. He was 65 years of age.
