DONNA MAUCHER
Donna E. Maucher, age 82, formerly of Hayes Center and Imperial, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2015, at Sunrise Heights in Wauneta after suffering a major stroke.
Donna was born on June 3, 1932 in rural Hayes County to Richard (Dick) and Edna (Colson) Graves. She was the third of six children. Donna graduated from Wauneta High School in 1949. After graduation she taught school in rural Hayes County and worked for Dr. Lamb in Palisade.
On August 14, 1954 Donna married Gary E. Maucher in a double wedding ceremony with her sister Laverne and her husband LeeRoy in Fort Morgan, Colorado. The couple had two children; Leanna and Gerry. Donna and Gary farmed and ranched in Northwest Hayes County for many years where she was an integral part of the operation, helping with the cattle, driving a tractor, raising a large garden, and canning her produce including her delicious sweet pickles, as well as fruit she bought from Saxton Fruit Stand.
In 1982 Donna moved from the farm to Imperial where she worked at Chase County Hospital as a CNA for many years before her retirement. She enjoyed her job and looked forward to helping patients daily.
Donna attended the Church of Christ her entire life, where she looked forward to hymn sings, Bible studies, and potluck dinners. She was a member of the Welcome-In Club in Hayes Center. Donna enjoyed making and decorating cakes for her children and grandchildren’s birthdays. Baking homemade cookies, buns and pies, especially mince meat and peach, were specialties of hers. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s school and church events, and becoming acquainted with her great-granddaughter. Donna was able to attend all three of her grandchildren’s weddings, most recently traveling to Potter in December to attend her last grandchild’s wedding, which she greatly enjoyed.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Dick & Edna Graves; husband, Gary on May 9, 1976; in-laws, Bill & Lela Maucher; brothers and their spouses, Bill & Lee Graves and Dave & Lou Graves; a brother-in-law, Richard Kruse.
She is survived by her daughter, Leanna, of Loup City; son, Gerry (Kimberly), Hayes Center; sisters, Laverne (LeeRoy) Trumbo, Abilene, Texas, Wanda Kruse, St. Louis, Missouri, and Mary Ellen (Phil) Hayes, of Wray Colorado. Donna is also survived by her grandchildren, Jacqueline (Ryan) Mraz, Sutherland; Susan (Seth) Wecker, Potter; Benjamin (Taylor) Maucher, Hayes Center; great-granddaughter, Rylee Mraz, Sutherland; numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 23, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. MT at Westside Church of Christ in Imperial with Randy Hayes and Bill Bryan officiating. A private family burial at Morning View Cemetery in Wallace will precede the service.
Visitation will be held Sunday afternoon, March 22, 2015, 2:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home in Imperial.
