Doris Edwards
Doris Madeline Edwards, daughter of Orrin Leo and Ethel Bell Wilson, was born September 8, 1919, in Dundy County, Nebraska, on her parent’s farm 20 miles north of Benkelman. She passed away peacefully at the Hester Memorial Home on Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at the age of 95 years, 3 months and 16 days. Doris was the fifth child of thirteen brothers and sisters. Doris worked outside the home from the time she was 13 years of age, cooking, cleaning, and caring for the children of other families in the area. Doris was united in marriage to Alvin Thomas Edwards of Benkelman, on March 7, 1939, at St. Francis, Kansas. To this union two children were born, a son, Orrin Thomas, and a daughter, Arlene Gay. Alvin and Doris were farmers and lived on farms northwest of Benkelman, Nebraska and southeast of Max, Nebraska before moving into a house in Benkelman in 1963. They continued to farm after moving into Benkelman. Doris had a steadfast faith in God. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church at Benkelman.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Edwards; her son, Tom Edwards; her daughter, Arlene Criger; her son-in-law, Doyle Criger; her parents, Orrin and Bell Wilson; her brothers Tim Wilson, Ellsworth “Edgie” Wilson, Hugh “Manny” Wilson, and Franklin Eugene Wilson; and her sisters, LaVon Evans, Bonnie VanDonsel, and Marilyn Darlene Wilson.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law Geraldine Edwards; her grandchildren, Connie Akeson and husband Terry, Michael Edwards and wife Janice, Kathy Harrison and husband Chris, Jimmy Criger, and Todd Criger; her great-grandchildren, Megan Suh and husband Kyungwon, McKenzie Akeson, Jenna Edwards, Jillana Edwards, Christina Harrison, and Cody Harrison; her brothers, Burdette Wilson and wife Jackie, Jack Wilson and wife InaMae; her sisters, Rachel Frederick, Donna Haines and husband Marvin, and Mary Jo Kernan; her sister-in-law Doris Williams; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, December 30th, 2014, 10:30 A.M. (MT) at the Zion Lutheran Church of Benkelman, with Pastor Doug Hjelmstad officiating. Interment will follow at the Benkelman Cemetery, Benkelman, NE
Visitation will be held before services on Tuesday morning, December 30th, 2014, at the church.
Memorials have been established to the Sarah Ann Memorial Home of Benkelman and the Zion Lutheran Church of Benkelman, NE.
