Dorothea Fanning
Dorothea Irene Fanning was born May 16, 1930, seventeen miles North of Wauneta, in Hayes County, Nebraska, to Harry and Josie (Tepley) Keller. As a young girl she attended Wauneta Public Schools before marring Frank Duane Fanning on October 18, 1947. The couple settled Northwest of Wauneta on the Fanning Homestead and later moved North of Wauneta on the river bottom, where they made their home for most of their lives.
Dorothea enjoyed farming, operating the tractors and watching the wheat crop grow. She loved gardening, raising flowers and grooming her yard. Grandchildren were her pride and joy. Dorothea attended as many of their sporting events as she could before her health failed. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church of Wauneta, NE., The St. John’s Alter Society and a country extension club.
Dorothea passed away Tuesday morning, January 28th, 2014 at the Sunrise Heights Nursing Home in Wauneta. She was 83 years of age.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Husband, Frank, Son; DeWayne, Granddaughter; Stephanie Fanning, Grandsons; Danny Joe Jussel, Dustin and Cody Fanning
Survivors Include: Daughter: Vicki Baker and husband, Bill of Palisade, NE Son: Craig Fanning and wife, Jo of Wauneta, NE Daughter-in-law: Patti Fanning of Wauneta, NE Sister: Bernice Kunnemann and husband, Delbert of Billings, MT Brother: Dwight Keller and wife, Monica of Lakewood, CO Sister-in-law: Arleen Prince of Kimball, NE 5 Grandchildren: Chris Jussel and wife, Jaime, Norman fanning and wife, Vanessa, Bo Fanning, Abbie Fanning, Doug Stewart and Wife, Amy. 7 Great-Grandchildren: Jake Arenz, Kristen Jussel, Logan Jussel, Harvey Fanning, Samantha Stewart, Hope Stewart, and Jacob Stewart
A Rosary will be recited 6:30 P.M. (MT), Friday Evening, January 31st, 2014 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Wauneta with Father Lothar Gilde leading.
A Funeral Mass will be held 9:30 A.M. (MT), Saturday, February 1st, 2104 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Wauneta with Father Lothar Gilde celebrating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Wauneta, Nebraska.
Visitation will be Friday afternoon, January 31st, 2014 from 2:00-6:00 P.M. (MT) at the funeral home in Wauneta.
A Memorial has been established in Dorothea’s Memory.
