DORTHY DUDEK Dorthy Ellen Dudek was born March 4, 1929, at Wauneta, Nebraska, to Bartlett E. and Edna (Burk) Maxfield. As a young girl she grew up in Wauneta, graduating from Wauneta High School in 1946. Dorthy attended the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, for a year before returning to Wauneta.
Dorthy married Leonard Leo Dudek on March 6, 1954, in Sterling, Colorado, and to this union one daughter was born, Mary Lisa. The couple settled and made Wauneta their home for many years.
Dorthy was very active in the Wauneta community, working at the Chateau Theater, the Federal Land Bank, the Roller Mills, and as a grocery clerk. She was a hostess at the Walgren’s Steakout and the ELRA (Ender’s Lake Resort Area). Dorthy was a Mary Kay consultant, a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, acted as the secretary for the Wauneta United Methodist Church, which she was a member. She also held a membership to the Wauneta American Legion Auxiliary, and received the Aksarben Pioneer Family Award for having the family farm for over 100 years.
Dorthy was a former member of the Village Board of Wauneta, the Chase County Historical Society, and assisted in implementing the meals for senior at the American Legion Hall in Wauneta, before the Wauneta Senior Center was established. She was a very good seamstress making clothes for Mary and Mary’s Dolls. She also quilted many Items for family and friends. Dorthy enjoyed socializing with everyone and she especially loved her cats; Pumpkin and Sweet-Sweet.
Dorthy passed away early Thursday morning, May 9th, 2013, at the Sunrise Heights Nursing Home in Wauneta. She was 84 years of age.
Survivors Include: Daughter: Mary Lisa Dudek of Wauneta, NE Brother: Raymond Maxfield of Wauneta, NE Sister: Emma Jean Maris and Husband, Merrell, of Wauneta, NE Nephews: Jim Maxfield and wife, Connie, of Wauneta, NE Jeff Maxfield and wife, Kay, of Taylorville, Ill.
Dorthy was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Leonard, in 1968., and sister-In-Law, Betty Maxfield.
Funeral Services for Dorthy Dudek were held Tuesday Morning, May 14, 2013, 10:30 A.M (MT) at the United Methodist Church of Wauneta, with Pastor Bonnie McCord officiating. Interment followed at Riverside Cemetery, Wauneta.
Visitation was held Monday afternoon, May 13th, 2013, 2:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M. (MT) at the funeral home in Wauneta.
A memorial has been established to the United Methodist Church of Wauneta
