Eda Marie Sandman

Eda Marie Snoke Sandman, 96, of Wauneta, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at Bickford Cottage in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Eda Marie (Edie) gave her life to Jesus in 1972, enjoyed 45 years of studying the Bible and serving Him, before going to celebrate with her Lord in heaven.

Edie was born to Frank and Lottie (Fornoff) Snoke on March 10, 1921, on the family farm outside Hayes Center, Nebraska. She graduated from Hayes Center High School in 1939.

After graduation from high school, Edie studied business at Kearney Normal School (now University of Nebraska, Kearney) and then went to work at the ASCS office in Hayes Center before moving to Denver to work as a bookkeeper for the government during the World War II effort. Her office moved her to Washington DC for a time before she returned to her job in Denver.

A handsome young man named Virgil Sandman returned from the Navy in 1946 and showed up on her doorstep. It was magic, and Edie married the love of her life later that year on October 6, 1946. They were blessed with four children, Nik, Cindy, Kirk, and Melody. The family has continued to grow, adding two daughters-in-law, one son-in-law, 11 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. Nothing brought Edie more joy than for all of the family to be together, especially when it was around a big table with lots of great food!

Edie’s interests and activities were diverse. You could see her driving a tractor, setting irrigation pipe and any tasks that supported the family farm. She also ran an income tax business and did bookeeping for area farmers. Being involved in her church and leading Bible studies in her home were her joy. Her all-time favorite job, however, was loving and caring for her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Lottie Snoke; her husband, Virgil Sandman; 1 sister, Zelpha Scott; and 1 grandson, Andrew Sandman.

Edie is survived by her children and spouses Nik and Colleen Sandman (Wauneta); Cindy West (Lincoln); Kirk and Cindy Sandman (Wauneta); Melody and Mike Kenney (Lincoln); 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, Amy Sandman (Dallas, TX) - Connor; Ben Sandman (Lincoln); David Sandman (Lincoln); Nathan West (Lincoln); Derek and Allison Sandman (Wauneta) – Haylee, Alexa, Noah; Seri and Jesse Neal (Alma) – Addison, Jakin, Isaiah, Kamri, Aysha, Sias; Ane and Brandon Gosnell (Maxwell); Tami and Gregg McPherson (San Antonio, TX) – Andrew, Nolan, ElliAne; Beth and Tyler Weishahn (Beatrice); Paul and Catelyn Kenney (Lincoln); 1 sister, Charlotte Odom (Picayune, MS); 1 sister-in-law, Verna Sandman (Wauneta); numerous nephews, nieces, and friends.

Pallbearers were Derek Sandman, Paul Kenney, Ben Sandman, Nathan West, David Sandman, and Andrew Sandman (Honorary).

Funeral Services will be held Saturday morning, June 3rd, 2017, 10:30 A.M. (CENTRAL TIME) at the Hamlet Union Church of Hamlet, with Edie’s Son-In-Law: Mike Kenney officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Wauneta.

Visitation will be held Friday afternoon, June 2, 2017, 2:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M. (MOUNTAIN TIME) at the Funeral Home in Wauneta.

A memorial has been established in Edie’s memory.
