Ethel Ilene Bernard

Ethel Ilene (Zarecor) Bernard   Was born Oct. 10 1928 to Herschal and Ella (Trembly) Zarecor, in Wauneta Ne. She spent her child hood in Wauneta, graduating from Wauneta High in 1946. On June 9 1946 she was united in marriage to Harold R Bernard in Wauneta. To this union two children were born, Sheryl and Gary. Harold and Ethel lived on the family farm until Harold’s health declined and moved to Benkelman.   While on the farm Ethel always grew a big garden. She enjoyed raising chickens so the family had fresh chicken’s year around.   She always enjoyed standing by the kitchen window and watching the cows come to the windmill to drink. One of her biggest loves and passions was the time spent fishing and camping with family and friends.   Ethel ran the Benkelman Sale Barn café for many years. After moving to town Ethel worked at the Benkelman Library and was on the Library Board for many years. A position she dearly loved. For she was an avid reader.   Her other interests were putting jigsaw puzzles together, watching husker football, and being with her grandkids, were They always knew grandma would have full candy dish.   She was precede in death by her parents, husband Harold, daughter Sheryl, infant great grandson Kaleb Robert Sis, brothers Dale, Dean, Don, Dennis and sister Mary Lou.   She is survived by her son Gary and wife Peggy Bernard, Son in Law Larry Janousek, 9 Grand kids Tina and Husband Larry, Robert and Wife Barb, Carla, Tammy, Michele, Tonya and husband Jason, Chad and wife Zoe, Travis and wife Jessica and Shawn, 27 great grand children and 5 great great grand children.   Brothers Herschel and wife Mona, Wil and wife Pat, Jimmy, Kenneth, Mickey and wife Brenda. Sisters Barbara Schmidt, Linda and husband Dan Ellegood, Many nieces, nephews, cousins and Friends.   Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. (MT), Monday, April 14th, 2014 at the Benkelman Community Building in Benkelman, Nebraska with Pastor George Matthews officiating. Interment will follow at Benkelman Cemetery.  Visitation will be Sunday afternoon, 2-6 P.M. (MT) at the Benkelman Community Building.  A Memorial has been established in Ethel’s memory.  Online condolences can be left at liewerfuneralhome.com  BENKELMAN MEMORIAL CHAPEL IS IN CHARGE OF ARRANGEMENTS
