Freda Johnson

March 11, 1916 — November 27, 2010

Freda Johnson
Freda Mildred Drumm was born in Chase County, Nebraska, on March 11, 1916. Freda was the third of eight daughters born to Loren and Blanche (Thompson) Drumm. As a young girl, Freda attended grade school at District 24, here in Chase County. She lived and worked on the Drumm family farm, located Northeast of Imperial, Nebraska. Freda married Hursel (Bud) Johnson on May 18, 1935, in Imperial, and the couple settled in Palisade, Nebraska, where they made their home. Freda and Bud found work wherever they could because jobs were few and far between at the time. At times, Freda was the sole breadwinner for the family including four children born to this union: Patsy, Elton, Marie and Floyd. Freda adored her children and took whatever steps that were necessary to make sure they were warm and safe. The family tried many opportunities before moving to Imperial in 1954. Bud started a gardening service which he continued until his death in 1980. Freda started a cleaning service and maintained Mrs. Happ’s motel for nearly 40 years. At the same time she cleaned and shopped for other customers, and provided other services for those in need. Freda’s children all went on to have successful lives and careers.
As grandchildren were born, Freda doted on these children. She provided love and caring in addition to Afghans, embroidered tablecloths and doilies, that each of the grandchildren still cherish. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, embroidering and crocheting. Freda was also a regular church attendee.
Freda spent the last few years of her life in a care facility in Sidney, Nebraska, and ultimately here in Imperial. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday morning, November 27, 2010, at the Imperial Manor Nursing Home. She was 94 years of age.
