Helen Smith
Helen Lucille Smith was born December 20, 1933, at Crete, Nebraska, to Peter C. and Helen B. (Strelow) Smith.
As a young girl she grew up and attended grade school at District #50 and District #45 near Fairbury and Powell, Nebraska. She graduated from Fairbury High School in 1951. Helen continued her education at Mount St. Schlastia at Atchison, Kansas, where she received her Degree in Medical Technology.
In the early 1970’s, Helen began her medical career at Chase County Hospital, Imperial, Nebraska. She became the Medical Lab Supervisor and long time employee. She received the Kind Caring Award from the Nebraska Hospital Association in Lincoln during her tenure. She was also known for her generosity to fellow employees.
Helen was a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church of Imperial, and a past member of the Imperial Eagles. She enjoyed her pet cats and having a nice car.
Helen passed away Monday morning June 27, 2011, at her home in Imperial. She was 77 years of age.
Survivors Include: Brothers: Leo and wife Sally Smith of Uniontown, PA; Robert and wife Betty Smith of Alexandria, NE Sisters: Mildred Kruzburg of Lincoln, NE; Esther and husband Barton Schiermeyer of Orion, IL. Sister-in-law: Evonne Smith of Washington, KS 19 Nieces and Nephews
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Clarence, Martin, William and Lester, who died in infancy.
A Memorial Mass was held Friday morning July 01, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church of Imperial with Father Bernard Lorenz officiating. Inurnment took place Tuesday morning, July 05, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. (CT) at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Crete, NE., with Fr, Julis Tvrdy officiating.
No Visitation; Helen chose cremation.
Memorials can be made to the American Heart Association or St. Patrick’s Catholic Church of Imperial.
