Hertha Louise Holien, the oldest child of Hans and Ilene (Miller) Ahrendsen, was born June 27, 1933 in Sheldon, Iowa. The family moved to Sioux City in 1943 where she attended Junior and Senior High School before marrying Larry M. Holien in 1950. The couple settled in Colorado Springs, Colorado where they were both active in Cub and Brownie Scouts and the local volunteer fire department. They also coached youth bowlers for many years before moving to Enders, Nebraska in 1989, following Larry’s retirement from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
Hertha passed away on July 1, 2017 at her home in Enders, Nebraska. She was 84 years of age.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry in 2000; her parents; her brother, Don Ahrendsen; sister, Mary McLaughlin; granddaughter, Debra Ridlen-Palser; son-in-law, David M. Ridlen and infant grandson, Dustin Ridlen.
Survivors include: Sister, Lucinda Firkins of Colorado Springs, CO; children: Pat Hammel of Imperial, Pam Ridlen of Enders and and son, Larry Holien and wife, Cynthia of Colorado Springs; grandchildren: David Ridlen, Stacy Reasoner , Nathan Hammel, Marcus Holien and Lucas Holien; great-grandchildren: Dylan, Chase, Victoria, Vincent, Dominick, Ariana, Michael, Isabella and Gage; numerous nieces and nephews and many wonderful neighbors and friends, including: Sandra and Aland Tubbs of Colorado Springs, Kay and Alvin Einspahr of Enders and Janet Ramm of Enders
A celebration of life service will be held for Hertha at a later date with a private family inurnment.
No visitation; cremation was chosen.
A memorial has been established to the Imperial EMS.
