IDA BARTELS OBITUARY
Ida was born January 24, 1918, to Louis A Damrow & Emma Sarah (Delabar) Damrow, on the family farm 15 miles southwest of Wauneta in Dundy County. She was the 8th of 11 children born to Louis and Emma and was the only remaining member of the family. Ida’s family attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where she was the first baby baptized when the new church was completed later that year in 1918. Life changed for Ida in 1927 at the tender age of 8 when her 39-year-old mother died when infection set in after undergoing gallbladder surgery. Emma’s funeral was held Jan.24, Ida’s 9th birthday and sister Helen’s 18th birthday. In the early elementary days, Ida attended school at a one-room schoolhouse a mile west of her home. During her 7th and 8th grade Ida attended school at St. Paul’s parochial school where she took part in catechism classes. She lived with the family of her pastor; Rev. William Wendling, one winter until she was confired and graduated from the 8th grade. Ida’s Confirmation was April 5, 1931, at St. Paul’s Lutheran church on the south divide. Her verse is: Psalms 145: 18, 19 which she had used though her lifetime and God proved to be faithful to her. Ida’s took part in Walther League, Sunday afternoon ball games and concerts at the bandstand given by the St. Paul’s Lutheran Band, which Otto Bartels was a member of. Ida’s favorite thing at church was being a part of the church choir which was extended to fill the home with her beautiful voice as she worked. She had brought this with her while working and singing with her sisters when they were growing up together. On Aug. 27, 1936 Ida married Otto Carl Bartels. A South Divide farmer that she knew all her life as he also attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. To this union 6 children were born. Betty, Wayne, Dale, Barbara, Lois, and Allen Bartels. Ida life was that of a farm wife, mother and Grandmother. She loved doing things for family. We remember sat. morning the house smelling so good with baked goods that she made for her family and fried chicken for Sunday dinner. Her grandchildren remember waking to her pancakes that she made them without fail anytime they stayed for a visit. She was later a large part of the working ladies on main street Wauneta NE for many years, with more than one enterprise. Ida is survived by 5 of her 6 children: Wayne and Donna Bartels of Enders NE; Dale and Barbara Bartels of Brush CO; Barbara and Jerry Cooper of Henderson, NV; Lois Glover of Wauneta NE; and Allen and Joyce Bartels of Mount Juliet TN; 12 Grandchildren; 21 Great Grandchildren; 11 Great Great Grandchildren; also sister-in-law Elsie Becker whom she shared a birthday with through the years. Ida was preceded in death by her parents Louis and Emma Damrow; Husband Otto Bartels; Daughter Betty Morgan; Grandchildren Guy Morgan, Kim Cooper, Ricky Dunham, Sarah Bartels, Tracy Lickliter, Carl Bartels; Great Grandchild Philip Lambertsen.
