Jack Cooper
John “Jack” Warren Cooper was born October 27, 1936 to Oscar and Elmira (Pierce) Cooper in Imperial, Nebraska. He was raised north of Imperial and graduated from Chase County High School in 1955.
Jack served in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1960. While serving his country, Jack married DeMarys Groff, also of Imperial. The couple lived in Denver for a short time before returning to Imperial, where they raised their three daughters on Jack’s family farm north of Imperial.
Jack supported the family as a farmer and rancher and then through C & M Lawn Care in Imperial. He was a member of the Imperial Eagles, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the National Rifle Association. Jack was also active in the community as a member of the Lied Imperial Public Library Board and the Chase County Historical Society. Jack enjoyed time spent fishing, hunting and gardening. He was also interested in genealogy and collecting.
Jack passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at the Sunrise Heights Nursing Home of Wauneta after a long battle of cancer. He was 76 years of age.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include: Wife: DeMarys of Imperial, NE Daughters: Pam Murphy and Husband, David, of Burlington, CO Penny Portz and Husband, Bob, of McCook, NE Linda Kerchal and Husband, Steve, of Culbertson, NE 3 Grandsons: Devin and Andrew Murphy, Jesse Kerchal
Memorial Services for Jack will be 11:00 A.M. (MT), Friday, April 12, 2013, at the Westside Church of Christ with Bill Bryan officiating. A private family inurnment with military honors will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery, Imperial, Nebraska.
No Visitation, Jack chose cremation.
A memorial has been established in Jack’s Memory.
