Jack V Wilson

September 8, 1929 — November 29, 2024

Imperial

Jack Verle Wilson, passed away on November 29, 2024 in Imperial, Nebraska, at the age of 95 Jack was Born on September 8, 1929, in Benkelman, Nebraska the 2nd youngest of thirteen children, to Leo Orrin and Ethyl Belle (Smith) Wilson. Jack grew up in Benkelman attending school and graduated in 1949.

Upon graduating, Jack married his high school sweetheart Ina Mae Andersen at Zion Lutheran Church in Benkelman on September 15, 1949 where the couple first settled. Jack’s career would take the family to various communities throughout Nebraska. The Wilson family lived in Grant and Elwood, Nebraska until permanently setting in Imperial in 1977 when Jack was promoted to Road Superintendent. His career in road maintenance lasted just over 42 years until he retired.

Jack loved to tell jokes and was a consummate “pot stirrer”. He kept everyone around him on their toes. He took pride in his work but was particularly skilled in woodworking. Jack was well known for his refinishing jobs, quilt racks, spice racks and anything in between. His workshop was one of a kind and set him up to build almost anything.

A master Gardner, Jack loved getting his hands in the soil and growing a bountiful garden. He also loved tending to his lawn. His greatest complement was when an out-of-town guest parked their RV on his lawn, not realizing it wasn’t a city park for him to use.

Jack was a tremendous father, grandfather and friend. He loved to spend time with his family and he loved to play cards. Cribbage was his game of choice and it was up to you to catch every point. He didn’t let anything slide.

Jack is survived by his sons, Kevin (Julie) of Alliance, NE and Mike(Barb) of De Moines, IA; his daughter, Peggi Hatch of Elwood, NE; 6 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 72 years; a grandson, Adam; son-in-law, Laverene; and 12 siblings.

A Memorial Service will be held and announced in the Spring of 2025 with inurnment to follow at Benkelman Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Imperial Community Center or the Imperial Volunteer Fire Department.
