Jean Kirwan
Faye Jean Kirwan was born to Otis and Martha (Williams) Larreau on June 27, 1936 in Thedford, Nebraska. She attended school in Arnold, Nebraska and graduated with the class of 1954. Jean went on to attend Kearney State College from 1954-1956; she returned to school later in life and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation from Chadron State College.
Jean was united in marriage to Myron Kirwan on June 17, 1956 in Arnold, Nebraska. The couple made their first home on a farm near Gibbon, Nebraska. They would remain in western Nebraska and finally settle in Imperial.
She was above all things an excellent stay-at-home mother to her young children, but also worked as a substitute teacher at Imperial Middle and High Schools and in addition to teaching; she was the manager of the Imperial Swimming Pool for many years. Jean was very active in her community holding many offices in different city clubs: the VFW Auxiliary, Extension Club, TOPS, the Imperial Family and Community Education Club, Coffee Group, Birthday Club and the Red Hatters. She was also an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Imperial where she was part of the Women’s Group, knitted prayer shawls, served as District Spiritual Growth Officer for Southwest Nebraska, was a part of numerous Bible Study groups and sang in the church Choir.
Jean loved to swim, paint ceramics and scrapbook. Her most cherished hobby was sending cards to friends and family for all occasions. She loved to knit and made many crafts for her children and grandchildren.
Jean Kirwan passed away Monday afternoon, June 8, 2015 at the Imperial Manor Nursing Home in Imperial. She was 78 years of age.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Karl Raymond Kirwan and Michael Eugene Kirwan and a daughter, Kathy Ray Kirwan.
Survivors include: Husband, Myron “Mike” Edward Lawrence Kirwan of Imperial, NE Daughter, Karen ReNee Weiner and husband, Richard of Charlotte, NC Son, Kris Robert Kirwan and wife, Ana of Charlotte, NC 5 grandchildren: Chelsea Anne Weiner, Grant Alexander Weiner, Jocelyn Leigh Weiner, Brian Frederick Kirwan and Katherine Faye Kirwan. Sister, Betty Searcy of Athens, TX Brother, Leland Larreau and wife, Betty of Sutherland, NE Sister, Connie Weinman and husband, Glenn of Arnold, NE Brother-in-law, Raymond Kirwan and wife, Donna of Littleton, Co Brother-in-law, LaRoue Kirwan of Saratoga, CA Brother-in-law, Emil Kirwan and wife, Virginia of Kansas City, KS Sister-in-law, LaRae Drew of Alexandria, VA Sister-in-law, Maribell Irwin of Odessa, NE Brother-in-law, David Kirwan of Stockton, CA
Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. (MT), Saturday morning, June 13, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church of Imperial with Pastor Phil Harris and Lay Minister Alice Lindekugel officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Imperial.
Visitation will be Friday afternoon, June 12, 2015 from 2:00-6:00 P.M. at the funeral home in Imperial
A memorial has been established in Jean’s memory.
