James Skomp
James Hamilton Skomp was born August 23, 1930, in Green County, Indiana. He was the son of Joseph B. and Faye E. Skomp. Jim was united in marriage to Vera Mears on July 22, 1961 in Green County, Indiana.
Jim’s involvement with the fertilizer business kept the family on the move and eventually brought them to Grant, Nebraska. Jim and Vera were members of the Church of Christ in Ogallala, Nebraska. And Jim was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Grant, Nebraska; he had served his country in the Korean War from 1952-1954.
Jim Skomp passed away Saturday, June 30, 2012 at the Imperial Manor Nursing Home, Imperial, Nebraska. He was 81 years of age.
He was preceded in death by his wife Vera Jean and Parents Joe and Faye Skomp.
He is survived by: Daughter Sally Scherer and husband, Dan of St. Charles, MO.; son Matt Skomp of Imperial; two grandsons: Chance Skomp and wife, Jessica and Colton Skomp all of Lamar, NE; great-grandson: Canton Skomp; brothers: John Skomp and wife, Ann and JoeWayne Skomp and wife, Irene, both from Indiana; and sisters Ruth Skomp and Janet Nybakke and Husband, John, both from Oregon.
Graveside Services for Jim Skomp were held Tuesday morning, July 3, 2012 10:00 A.M. at the Grant Cemetery, Grant, NE with Bob Brueggeman and Jim Howard officiating.
Visitation was Monday afternoon, July 2nd, 2012, 2:00 P.M. -6:00 P.M. at the funeral home in Imperial.
