Joseph Donald Bopp,age 88 passed away June 8, 2014 after a brief illness.
He was born to the late Joseph Anthony and Martha Gertrude (O'Rourke) on June 21, 1925. Joe married Mary Eleanor Casebeer on January 28, 1948 in Imperial, and to this union 5 children were born. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Imperial, NE. He was dedicated to the idea of local community support and was active in fostering a sense of continuing community in Champion. He resided in Champion, NE after his military service until he moved to Parkview Heights in Imperial. He served in the Navy in WWII. For many years he was active in Veterans of Foreign Wars and participated in Memorial Day Services at Mt. Hope until ill health intervened. He retired from the US Postal Service after 39 1/2 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Phillip Bopp and sister Gertrude Bopp Monteith and an infant granddaughter.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Mary Casebeer Bopp, of Imperial, Ne. 5 children: Margaret Ruefenacht (Alvin) of Soody Daisy, TN. Jody Bopp (Debra), of Imperial, NE. Martha Holloway, of Champion, NE. Phillip Bopp (Lois)of Baconton, GA, and Richard Bopp of Sullivan, MO.,9 cherished grandchildren and 10 great- grandchildren and nephews and nieces.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to his care givers at Parkview Heights and Imperial Manor, his doctors and nurses and Father Bernard Lorenz for their loving attention.
Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Joe.
A Rosary will be recited Wednesday evening, June 11, 2014, 7:00 P.M. at St Patrick’s Catholic Church, Imperial.
A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday morning, June 12, 2014, 10:00 A.M. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Fr. Bernard Lorenz celebrating. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Imperial.
Visitation will be held Wednesday afternoon, June 11th, 2014, 2:00 – 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home in Imperial, NE
