Joseph “Jody” Donald Bopp II was born to Joseph Bopp and Mary (Casebeer) on September 27, 1951 in Imperial, NE. Joseph, or “Jody” as he was affectionately known by many, grew up in Imperial and graduated from Chase County High School in 1969.
In January of 1969 Jody answered the call to serve his country and proudly enlisted in the United States Navy and served until 1975 obtaining the rank of Electronics Technician Radar Petty Officer 2nd class. After completing his duty to Country, Jody returned to Imperial and began working for Great Plains Communication as an office technician for 42 years.
On November 16, 1984, Jody married the love of his life, Debra Fuller. An extra bonus, Deb had a son, David, whom Jody could not wait to adopt. On May 23, 1985 Jody officially adopted David and proudly claimed him as his own.
In addition to serving his country, Jody also served his community well. Jody was a proud member of the Imperial Volunteer Fire Dept., serving for nearly 35 years. He taught at Fire School for several of those years. He was a member of the Eagles Club, an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council #7081 having become a Third Degree Knight.
Jody was a proud Eagle Scout and loved giving back to his community. He helped start the community Christmas Dinner and enjoyed serving during the holidays. When he wasn’t giving back to Imperial, Jody loved to hunt, fish and travel the world. He and Deb took several trips to Europe and beyond. He loved seeing the world but was sincerely amazed with Christmas Markets.
Jody’s passion was to serve others, and he genuinely took to heart what it means to love thy neighbor.
Jody leaves behind his loving wife of 39 years, Deb; their son, David (Danielle) Bopp, 2 brothers, Phillip (Lois) and Richard Bopp; 1 sister, Margaret (Alvin) Ruefenacht and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 24, from 5:00-7:00 P.M. followed by Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Imperial.
Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday October 25, 2023, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Fr. Lothar Gilde officiating.
Memorial Contributions may be made In Jody’s memory to the Imperial Volunteer Fire Dept. Or St. Gianna Women’s Home in Lincoln, NE.
