Joyce Schwenk

Joyce Elaine (Kitt) Schwenk was born January 29, 1929, in rural Wauneta (South Divide), Nebraska, to Lee and May (Carpenter) Kitt. Joyce grew up in Wauneta and graduated from Wauneta High School with the class of 1946. She continued her education “normal training” at McCook College.

On June 12, 1949, Joyce married Emerson Duane Schwenk at Mt. Zion Church on the South Divide in rural Wauneta, Nebraska. The couple made their first home on a farm 7 miles south and 1 mile west of Wauneta and later they moved 10 miles south and 2 miles west of Wauneta. In May of 2010 Joyce moved into Parkview Assisted Living and then in January of 2014, she moved into the Imperial Manor.

Joyce taught school at both District #58 (Gauger School) and Eden Country School in the Eden Community (located on the South Divide rural Wauneta). She also worked in the office at the Imperial Auction Market. She was a wife, homemaker, she helped on the farm and was the best Mom ever! Joyce was a member and past-president of the W.S.C.S at Mt. Zion Church and also a member and past-president of the U.M.W. at the Methodist Church in Wauneta.

Joyce loved to sew, crochet, golf and play the piano. She accompanied the “Kitt” Quartet and played piano for services and choir at Mt. Zion Church. Joyce especially loved spending time with her family and attending her grandchildren’s events. She also enjoyed cooking and anyone stopping by or helping work or move cattle was served a meal or a cup of coffee and cookies. Joyce had the reputation of being “a good cook”.

Joyce passed away Thursday afternoon, June 29th, 2017, at the Imperial Manor Nursing Home in Imperial, NE. She was 88 years of age.
