Kenneth Potthoff
Kenneth George Potthoff was born November 25, 1931 in Wray, Colorado to Gerhard and Katie (Frerichs) Potthoff, and passed away January 26, 2014 at the age of 82.
Kenneth was a long time resident of Haigler, Nebraska where he raised sugar beets, corn, wheat, alfalfa, cattle, and hogs for most of his life. He custom farmed, hauled silage and was a mechanic for his neighbors and friends. He graduated from Haigler High School in 1948, and then moved to Fremont, Nebraska where he attended Midland College. He moved back to the family farm to help his father shortly before entering the United States Army in 1953. On July 19, 1953 he was united in marriage to Irene Schwartz, and from this union came 3 children, Kevin, Leesa and Tonya.
Kenneth was a member of the American Legion in Haigler, Nebraska where he served as Adjutant for many years. He was also a member of the Haigler Lutheran Church, the Gun Club, Haigler 4-H club and leader of the model rocketry club. Dancing was a lifelong passion, and later in life he became a regular at the singles dances where he danced every dance. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gerhard and Katie (Frerichs) Potthoff, his wife Irene Potthoff, his brother Dale Potthoff, his sisters Phyliss Meinen and Betty Orth.
He is survived by his children, Kevin and Donna Potthoff of WaKeeney, KS; Leesa, Kerry, Cody and Kaid Wark of Colby, KS; and Tonya, Ryan, Josie, and Colton Stover of Norton, KS, his sister Shirley and Joe Blakeney of San Diego, CA.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 A.M. (MT), Friday, January 31st, 2014 at Zion Lutheran Church of Haigler, Nebraska with Pastor Chris Farmer officiating. Interment will follow at the Haigler Cemetery, Haigler, Nebraska with full military honors.
Visitation will be Thursday afternoon, January 30th, 2014 from 2:00-6:00 P.M. (MT) at Zion Lutheran Church of Haigler, Nebraska.
A Memorial has been established to the American Legion & Sons of the American Legion Post #134 of Haigler, Nebraska.
