Kim (Pflum) West passed away from cancer early Sunday morning on October 7th, 2018 in her home in Stratton at the age of 59 surrounded by her family.
She was born on January 14th, 1959 to Lloyd Jr. & Donna (Roedel) Pflum in Imperial, NE. Kim and her family attended the Imperial Zion Lutheran Church avidly. She started her education at the District 66 schoolhouse and graduated from Chase County High School in 1977. She worked for her dad on the family farm starting at a young age past her associate years at the NCTA campus in Curtis, NE. She applied her Vet Tech degree working for Kenny Krausinick DVM in Imperial.
Kim met Garth West the evening of the 1979 Stratton Harvest dance, which they danced together for many years after in various places. They settled down near his family’s homestead after their Valentine’s Day wedding ceremony in 1981. In their rural, one bedroom house, they raised two girls, Montana Dawn & Nevada Jean before moving into town in 1992. Kim worked as a vet tech. in the Stratton office for Rick Brown DVM Western Plains Veterinary Service. She continued her arts and crafts hobby during this time and eventually moved on to cooking at the Stratton school and continued her crafts passion through her part of Tempting Treasures formal dress and flower business. She was an active member of the Stratton Ball Association as well as the Stratton Rec Club. Through many of these years she spent countless hours in her lawn and garden as well as evenings spent with friends playing cards, and morning coffees.
She was preceded in death by her parents Lloyd & Donna Pflum, brother Charles, sister Kaye Eskew, and father-in-law Arwyn West.
Survivors include her husband Garth West, daughter Montana Ringer and husband Zack, daughter Nevada Lytle and husband Jason, sister Kelly Pflum, brother-in-law Frank West & wife Angie, mother-in-law Lois West, and 4 grand-children: Colten, Riatta, & Sedar Ringer and Aiden Lytle, along with uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
There will be no visitation, cremation was her request. Services will be held Friday, October 12th, 2018, 10:30 am MT, at Zion Lutheran Church in Imperial, NE with the Rev. David Kahle officiating. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Jude’s Children’s.
