Kristi Nicole Lutz Ohrman, 38, passed away at her home in Wray, Colorado on October 11, 2019. Kristi was born on May 16, 1981, at Dundy County Hospital, with Dr. Kenneth C. Stout attending. Parents are father, Jim C. Lutz of Parks NE, his wife Linda, and mother, Helen L. McSwain and husband Neal of Benkelman.
Kristi grew up on the farm/ranch north of Benkelman, spending many days making miniature lakes, rivers and dams with cousin Kendall, lifelong friend Sammi Di, and her little brother Nick Tanner. In the summer when she wasn’t creating makeshift landscapes, you could find her and the rest of the gang in Grandma Jean’s swimming pool. Her friends called her a fish, as the water suited her well. Kristi and Sammi Di learned to drive by taking over the John Deer lawn mower, and in their teen years tore up the alfalfa field spinning cookies with the big white Crown Victoria car. Kristi loved the farm life and showing horses at the County Fair. In her adult years she spent time taking care of bucket calves and tending chickens.
Kristi lived hard and fast, as if she knew her time on earth was limited. She became a Type 1 diabetic just days before her 10th birthday, and struggled with the volatility of that disease the rest of her earthy life. She gave birth to her first born at the age of 17. With Tana Jo baby tucked under her arm, she moved to McCook to pursue her GED and to attend Beauty School. Kristi worked for a short time at hair salons in Nebraska, Kansas and Colorado before her diabetes forced her to quit working. She also attended Fort Morgan Community College and was studying nursing, but her diabetes did not let her finish.
Krist is survived by daughter, Tana Jo Ohrman of North Platte, son, Tyler Reid of Hastings, and daughter, Tobi Rai, also of Hastings. Parents Jim C. Lutz (Linda) and Helen McSwain (Neal) brothers Travis Lutz (Pam) of Parks, and Nick Tanner (Ryan) of Denver, CO, maternal grandparents Garry and Peggy Ketler, niece Stella and nephew Saxton Lutz, close cousin Kendall David, lifelong friend Sam Brown Fhurer, special friend Phil Hatton and her constant companions and Special fur babies, Missy and Mass. Kristi was proceeded in death by her paternal Grandparents, Carl and Jean Lutz.
Cremation has been chosen. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 10, 2019, at 1 pm MST, at the Rainbow Fountain Park room in Benkelman, Nebraska. Please wear bright colors as a tribute to Kristi.
Memorials may be made in her honor to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
