Laura Margaret Buffington was born to Joseph and Anna Meury on November 12, 1919 in Manitou Springs, Colorado. She grew up in Colorado and graduated high school in Colorado Springs.
Laura married Harold Buffington on February 6, 1939 in Castle Rock, Colorado. The couple made homes in Colorado Springs, Cheyenne, Wyoming, Wauneta, Nebraska, McCook, Nebraska, Dodge City, Kansas; with Laura making her home once again back in Wauneta after Harold’s passing.
Laura was a devout Catholic and was very active in church activities, especially with the Altar Societies in McCook, Dodge City and Wauneta. Laura was also a volunteer at the Wauneta Senior Center for many years. She enjoyed homemaking and raising her four boys. In addition to volunteering and watching her sons grow, Laura also worked at the Mary Kay Shop, J.M. McDonalds and Kline’s Ready to Wear. Fashion was a big part of Laura’s life. She loved clothing and was a fashion icon in her day.
Laura Buffington passed away Wednesday evening, April 6, 2016 at the Imperial Manor Nursing Home in Imperial, Nebraska. She was 96 years of age.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, Harold, brothers: Joe and Edward, sister, Clara, daughter-in-law, Dixie and her son, Mark.
Survivors include:
Son, Roger Buffington and wife, Shari of Farmington, New Mexico
Son, Dennis Buffington of McCook, Nebraska
Son, Ray Buffington and wife Vicki of Imperial, Nebraska
Sister, Madeline “Misty” Baker of Dallas, Texas
7 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M. (MT) on Wednesday evening, April 13th, 2016 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Imperial with Father Bernard Lorenz leading.
A Memorial Mass will be at 10:00 A.M. (MT) on Thursday morning, April 14th, 2016 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Imperial with Father Bernard Lorenz celebrating. Inurnment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Wauneta.
No visitation, Laura chose cremation.
