Leon Stinnette

Leon Calvin Stinnette, the youngest son of Thomas Steven and Mary May (Skelton) Stinnette was born October 30, 1925, near Enders, Nebraska. Leon attended Ash Grove School in Dundy County, Nebraska, and graduated from Wauneta High School in 1943.

Leon married Esta Lavon Davis in September 1945, at Wauneta, Nebraska, and to this union a daughter, Sherilan Dee, was born. Leon and Esta were divorced in November 1948. On June 5, 1953, Leon married Gwenn Goddard in Imperial, Nebraska.

Leon began his forty-year career in construction at Roswell, New Mexico, in 1949, as an apprentice carpenter. He later progressed to being a journeyman carpenter, then a foreman, and in 1963, he gained the position of Project Superintendent for Henry C. Beck Company. Leon was responsible for the construction of high-rise buildings in the states of, New Mexico, California, Oregon, and Washington. Leon left the Beck Company in 1969, and he and Gwenn moved to Portland, Oregon, where he was a Project Superintendent for the Hoffman Construction Company for the last eighteen years of his career. His employment with the Hoffman Company included the forty story First National Bank and Operations Building, in Portland, Oregon, the thirty-seven story Seattle Federal Building, the thirty-three story Pacific Northwest Bell Building, in Seattle, the Weyerhauser Technology Center, with a roof area of five acres, in Federal Way, Washington, the twenty-one story Arco Office Tower in Anchorage, Alaska, and several others. Leon always considered it a privilege to have been given the opportunity to supervise construction of projects of this size.

Leon retired in March of 1987, and he a Gwenn later located in Broomfield, Colorado. In retirement, the couple traveled and wintered in California and Arizona. He was a life member of the NRA, ATA, and PITA.

Leon passed away early Wednesday morning, April 19, 2023, at the Hillcrest of Loveland Assisted Living Center in Loveland Colorado. He was 97 years of age.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents, wife; Gwenn in 2002, brothers; Howard and Harold, sister; Wilma, and sons-in-law: Ronald Arterburn and James Majors.
Survivors Include:
Daughter; Sherilan Arterburn of Grand Junction, Colorado. Stepdaughter; Joann Majors, of Rogersville, Missouri, Stepson; Jimmie Goddard and wife, Meda, of Berthoud, Colorado.

Grandchildren: Gabrielle Arterburn, Tara Arterburn, Nancy (Burt) Crocket, Jimmie Majors, Susan Majors, Mark (Julie) Majors, Michael (Marla) Goddard, Mark (Lisa) Goddard, Tammy (Kevin) Lutz.

Great-Grandchildren: Justin (Sara) Tiffany, Megan (Mitchel) Tiffany-Barber, Alexandra Majors, Raymond Majors, Brenna (Cody) Johnston, Erinn Goddard, Jessie (Caylyn) Goddard, Brandon (Malory) Lutz, and Hailey Lutz.

Great-Grandchildren: Ava Tiffany, Grace Tiffany, Syler Johnston, Oakley Johnston, Creed Johnston, Colter Johnston, Jaylynn Goddard, Ellie Lutz, Camille Lutz and Sloan Lutz.

Graveside Services will be held Wednesday morning, April 26th, 2023, 11:00 A.M. (Mountain Time) at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Imperial, NE, with Rev. Melody Newman officiating.

Visitation will be held Tuesday afternoon, April 25, 2023, 3:00-6:00 P.M. (Mountain Time) at Liewer Funeral Home, Imperial.

A memorial, In Leon’s Memory, has been suggested to the Donor’s Choice.
