LESTER V. LINES
Lester Verle Lines was born November 7th, 1922, at home in the Hiawatha Community of Dundy County, Nebraska, to Ulysses S. and Eva (Bernard) Lines. Lester grew up in Dundy County where he rode a horse to the Hiawatha Grade School. Lester married Darleen Pummel on April 25, 1950, in McCook, Nebraska. Lester and Darleen settled on a farm south of Imperial where they raised corn, wheat and cattle. Three children were born to this union: Leslie, Tim, and Starla. The family also lived in McCook and Parks, Nebraska, for a short time. They returned to Imperial where their children graduated from Chase County High School.
Lester was a farmer-rancher most of his life, with an emphasis on the rancher part. He also worked at Brown Chemical and later at T-Junction. He entered Heritage of Wauneta in 2005 where he made many friends among the staff and patients there, receiving wonderful care.
Lester enjoyed riding his motorcycle as a young man. He also loved riding his horses and was an excellent roper. He was a bull rider and enjoyed rodeos. He was a happy, friendly person who never met a stranger and was loved by all. Lester passed away Friday morning, May 14, 2010, at the Heritage of Wauneta Nursing Home. He was 87 years of age.
Lester was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Glen and Virgil Lines, brothers-in-law Don Bremer and Jim Pummel, sisters-in-law Ruth Yaeger and Judy Taylor, father-in-law Perry Pummel, and mother-in-law Minnie Pummel.
Survivors Include: Wife: Darleen of Imperial, NE Sons: Leslie Lines and special friend (Connie Lewis) of Imperial, NE Tim Lines and special friend (Pam Newton) of Enders, NE Daughter: Starla O’Neil and husband Tom of Lincoln, NE 1 Grandson: Skye O’Neil 2 Step-Grandchildren: Amy Axe and husband Kelley of Fort Collins, CO Willy O’Neil and wife Allison of Imperial, NE Brother: Leo Lines and Wife, Bethene, of Imperial, NE Sister: LaVeta Bremer of Rapid City, S.D.
Funeral Services for Lester Lines will be held Tuesday afternoon, May 18, 2010, 2:00 p.m. at Liewer Funeral Home in Imperial, with Rev. Greg Stuckwisch officiating. Inurnment will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation will be held Tuesday morning 8:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home.
A memorial has been established in Lester’s memory.
