Lois Bley
Lois Loretta (Harrison) Bley was born on July 2, 1930, and took up her residence in Heaven on October 31, 2015. She was the third of four girls born to James and Anna Harrison in rural Dundy County, Nebraska. Lois attended grade school at the Eden grade school, and graduated in 1947 from Stratton High School.
Lois married her grade school sweetheart, Raymond Bley, on May 25, 1951. To this union, three children were born: Lynetta, Lloyd, and Lauren Leroy. They farmed south of Wauneta in Hitchcock County, then after retiring, they moved to Wauneta.
In addition to working hard as a farm wife and mothering her children, Lois taught in rural public schools in Hitchcock, Dundy and Chase Counties from 1947 to 1951. Lois was very active in support of various Christian organizations. She taught Sunday School many years, was a Girl’s Dean at Kansas City College and Bible School, and served on the board of the Stratton Wesleyan Church. For many years she was secretary and treasurer of the Immanuel Missionary Church in Wauneta. She also served as secretary of the Imperial Valley Holiness Association camp board for 20 years, and on the Board of the Southwest Nebraska Holiness Church.
Lois loved music and sang for weddings, funerals and church services. She loved to sing for the glory of God, and always wanted to sing gospel songs. She played the piano, accordion, mandolin and guitar. Often these musical outings were accompanied by members of her family, who carried on this great family heritage.
Daily devotions were an important part of Lois’s life, and she read the Bible through many times. She enjoyed gardening, painting, playing carrom, scrabble, and cross word puzzles. Lois also had a sparkling and often mischievous sense of humor that was well-known by all who knew her. In fact, the numerous little tricks and practical jokes she indulged in were not only enjoyed by her family, but seemingly copied and have become a kind of family tradition themselves.
God granted Lois a precious additional time of life even after she seemed on the edge of death, and she used those few remaining days fully communicating and loving her family and praising the Lord. Her last days were spent in anticipation of Heaven and offering jubilant praises to God, giving powerful testimony to many who came to see her, including her doctors and nurses.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents; husband Raymond; and infant son, Lauren Leroy; sister, Leona Hunt; and brothers-in-law: Vernon Hunt, Keith Harris, Herman Bley and Alvin Bley; and sister-in-law, Nadine Bley.
She is survived by her daughter, Lynetta Wine and husband, Arlan of Wauneta; son, Lloyd Bley and wife, Durenda of Wauneta; sister, Florence Hegwood and husband, Milton of Culbertson; sister, Beulah Harris of Imperial; sister-in-law, Bonnie Bley of North Platte; brother-in-law, Ervin Bley and wife, Elaine of McCook; 4 Grandchildren, 6 Great-grandchildren and many friends.
