Loretta Lee Powell

Loretta Lee (Riemer) Powell passed away September 25, 2016 at the Dundy County Hospital in Benkelman; she was born on November 11, 1930 to Ralph L. and Emma R. (Frenzen) Riemer-Howard. She grew up in Benkelman, graduated from Benkelman High School in 1948 and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

She married James E Powell on September 26,1948 and to this union three children were born; Carolyn June Powell, James Lee Powell and Gregory Lynn Powell.

Loretta enjoyed camping and fishing with her family and friends, gardening and canning, but above all she loved her flowers and always had a yard full of pretty flowers she was so proud of for people to come by and admire.

Loretta and Jim opened the Tiger Hut, a fast food and malt shop business, until they sold the business a few years later. Loretta only planned on helping out the new owners for a while but stayed full-time for several years. Later Loretta and Jim got interested in antique furniture and glass, they enjoyed going on buying trips and finally opened up an antique store of their own until their retirement.

She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father True Howard and son Greg Powell and is survived by her husband Jim of almost 68 years, one daughter Carolyn Powell of Benkelman, one son Jim Powell of Longmont, Colorado; Two grandsons Corey Lynn Powell of Longmont, Colo., Trinity James Powell of Greeley, Colo.; one Great-Grandson Logan Powell, two Great-Granddaughters: Addison and Jacey Powell all of Greeley, Colo. one sister Carolyn and husband Floyd Edmonds of Broomfield, Colo. nephew Larry and wife Renee Edmonds of Colorado Springs, Colo. niece Debra(Edmonds) and husband Derrel Taylor of Keller, TX, cousin Bettye (Frenzen) Pursley of Benkelman along with a host of friends and other relatives.

Loretta chose cremation; memorial services are pending and will be announced at a later date, a memorial will be set up in her name.
