Lowell Edwin Nesbitt

March 1, 1930 — February 2, 2019

Lowell Edwin Nesbitt was born March 1, 1930 in Nance County, Nebraska to Merle and Dolly (Mason) Nesbitt. As a youngster he attended rural grade school and graduated from Fullerton High School in 1948.

Lowell was married to Evangeline F. Hebda on June 13, 1953 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Fullerton. They resided in Fullerton for a short time before Lowell took a job with Kansas Nebraska Natural Gas Company. The couple along with their growing family lived in several different towns as Lowell went from a service man to a manager: O’Neil, St. Paul, Albion, and Hastings and in 1968 they made their home in Imperial, Nebraska.

Lowell converted to the Catholic Church while living in St. Paul. He became more and more active with the church. In Imperial, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He held several offices with the local Knights, served as the Membership Director of the state organization and was a member of the Fourth Degree Knights. Lowell also participated in the St. Patrick’s Catholic Choir and served as a Reader and Acolyte. In addition to his activity in the church, Lowell was also a member of the Rotary Club and the Lions Club. He enjoyed golf, bowling, fishing, hunting and chasing his grandkids to all of their events. He did a lot of refereeing of football and basketball games and served as an umpire for baseball and softball. Playing pitch was always tops on his list. Lowell was a member if the Army National Guard where he rose to the rank of Sergeant.

Lowell retired in 1991 from KN after 41 years and he and Van spent time traveling until he was diagnosed with ALS 19 years ago. The disease over time was really debilitating, but you would not have known it by watching Lowell.

Lowell passed away Saturday evening, February 2, 2019 at the Imperial Manor Nursing Home. He was 88 years of age.
