Margaret Ellen Marvin

April 25, 1929 — March 4, 2025

Imperial

Margaret Ellen (David) Marvin was born to Stanton S. David and Helen Margaret (Gifford) David on their farm in Phelps County on April 25th, 1929. She received her education in Phelps and surrounding areas as the farm was located in the corner of four different counties. Margaret loved being outdoors and helping her father with the animals and many other farm projects. Outdoor activities were always special such as playing softball, volleyball, and track events. Margaret was baptized into the Christian faith in April 1945, and joined the Oxford, Nebraska Methodist church where she took part in many different functions. Later she taught both Bible school and Sunday school.

She moved with her parents to Palisade, Nebraska in 1947 and attended college in Greeley, Colorado after which she taught in several rural schools in Chase County, Nebraska. While teaching at Lamar, Nebraska school, Margaret was fortunate to meet her future husband, Bernard Marvin and became a farmer’s wife. She continued to love working outdoors, helping with the cattle herd and the newborn calves as well as flood irrigation and other farm work. Margaret always had a vegetable garden and liked her flowers and yard work as well.

Margaret and Bernard were married October 19, 1952, and were blessed with two children, Lucinda Jo and Brent Loyd. They worked together to raise their family and to build the farm into a successful, diversified operation. They celebrated nearly 67 years together and Margaret felt a great loss when Bernard passed away in 2019. She and her family have worked together to do farm improvements that they knew Bernard had wanted to do but was not able with his cancer disease.

Margaret was a member of an extension club for years. She worked with the 4-H clubs while her children were involved with their many projects. She also worked part-time at the County Assessor’s office part time when needed during the busy season for them. Margaret served on the rural school board several years and was the President of the Promoter of Music Club when the children were in high school. She and Bernard were members of the Methodist Church in Imperial, and she served on the Church Board and with the Church Circles.
