Marilyn Kadlecek passed away peacefully on September 26, 2024, in Benkelman, Nebraska. She was born on July 1, 1933, in Chadron, Nebraska, to James Russell Batie and Carrol C (Stroud).

Marilyn pursued her education diligently, graduating from Hay Springs High School in 1951. She went on to attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where she earned her bachelor's degree in Home Economics in 1955. Her passion for education found its outlet in teaching, where she served the students of Rushville, NE for 3 to 4 years before embarking on a notable career as the Postmaster in Stratton, a position she held with dedication for over 25 years.

Marilyn's life was filled with proud accomplishments, one of which was her loving marriage to Charles Kadlecek, whom she met in high school. They wed in Hay Springs at the Methodist Church, a union marked by deep love and partnership. A devoted member of the United Methodist Church, Marilyn was actively involved in various organizations, including the Order of Eastern Star, VFW, and the United Methodist Women (UMW).

Throughout her life, Marilyn was known for her many interests and hobbies. She had a keen eye for design, aspiring to be an interior decorator, and she shared her talent through sewing, decorating, and baking. Marilyn also enjoyed playing bridge. These activities were not just hobbies; they were expressions of her love for family and community.

Marilyn is survived by her loving children: Carrol Kadlecek of Stratton, Chuck (Rhonda) Kadlecek of Dallas Center, Iowa, Cynthia (Bill Brott) Roberts of Stratton, Connie Kadlecek (Michael Beall) of North Platte, Nebraska, Craig (Claire) Kadlecek of Castle Pines, Colorado, and Chandra Golder of Lincoln, Nebraska. She is also survived by her sisters in laws, Ruth, Margaret and Judy (Lynn); 9 grandchildren, Cadi (Kris Kracht) Kadlecek, Courtney (Dean) Deuel, Jordan (Mike) Hons, Jynicka Kadlecek-Roberts, Richard (Sarah) Roberts, CharLeigh Kadlecek, Collin Kadlecek, Caley Kadlecek, and Trevor Golder; 9 great grandchildren and numerous nieces nephews and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, her parents, her brother James Russell “J.R.” sister, Edith Martinez; sister-in-law, Phyllis Serbousek and son-in-law, Terry Golder.

Family will receive friends on Friday, October 18, 2024 from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M (CT) at Benkelman Memorial Chapel, 205 Buffalo St. Benkelman, NE. A Memorial Service to honor Marilyn’s life has been scheduled for 10:30 A.M. (CT) Saturday, October 19, 2024 at Stratton United Methodist church with Rev Jacob Keega and Ret. Pastor Janie Freeman officiating. Inurnment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Stratton. 

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Stratton United Methodist Church.
