Marlin E. Widger

April 4, 1933 — November 12, 2023

Marlin Elmer Widger was born on April 4, 1933 to Carl (Fat) and Eva Widger on the family farm 7 miles northwest of Wauneta. He passed gently on November 12, 2023. He is survived by four children (Ward, Mari Jo, Carl, Rhonda), five grandchildren (Felicia, Zach, Marlin (Doc), Tommy John, Cami), and 4 great grandchildren (Jeremiah, Julian, Lily, Alder); and numerous nieces, nephews, and their families. He was preceded in death by two wives, Carol L Smith and Janice G Thompson Widger, son, Kirk,

He graduated from University of Arizona with a Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering in 1971 while working full time and single parenting his older son who graduated from high school the same year. Marlin worked in several mines in Wyoming, Arizona, and Colorado and as a merchant marine, a card dealer in Las Vegas, and on his family farm which was originally founded by Elmer Elsworth (E. E.) Widger.

Marlin was an independent, honest, old-school “gentle gentleman”. His word was his bond, a deal was finalized by his handshake, and his relationships were tempered by his kindness and his authenticity. We have heard many say, “Marlin didn’t say a whole lot, but when he spoke it was worth listening to.” His hobbies included reading and puzzling. He was a student of history and a constant student of life until his passing.

The family requests that donations to Parkview Heights/Imperial Manor, where Marlin received consistently excellent support and friendship, be made in lieu of flowers.

As Marlin aged, special care was also given by his nephew, Jim Bob Widger and his children, Mari Jo Widger, and Felicia Widger. We will miss him.
