RETA SMITH
Reta Ann (Lorance) Smith, daughter of Bert Edward Lorance and Edith Marie (Stock)
Lorance, passed away quietly in her sleep March 1, 2018 at Brookdale Lowry Retirement
Center, Clara Bridges Wing, Denver, Colorado at the age of 78. Reta was born
January 19, 1940 in Niobrara County, Lusk, Wyoming and graduated in 1957 from
Stratton High School, Nebraska. She is a descendant of the St. Claire, Stock and Lorance
families, who homesteaded land near Stratton and Wauneta. Reta married Kent Robert
Smith in the Catholic Church on April 18, 1959 in Louviers, Colorado. Their son
Mitchell Kent Smith was born December 14, 1961 in Denver, Colorado. Because his
father was in the navy, Mitchell attended school in Hawaii, then Casper, Wyoming. Reta
received her Associate Degree of Arts in Education from Sheridan College in May 1972.
She was predeceased by her parents and grandparents.
Reta is survived by her former husband Kent Smith, son Mitchell Smith and wife
Lynette (Kerstein) Smith, grandchildren Levi James Kerstein, Mara Lynn Smith and
Kyle James Smith, brother Richard Wayne Lorance and wife Susan (Jay) Lorance, their
daughters Abigail (Lorance) Beyer with sons Marshall and Carter, Jessica (Lorance) Derx
and husband Ian, Aunt Lois (Stock) (Wheeler) Lane, 2nd cousin Norma (Lorance) Thomas
and husband Robert and many cousins living in Nebraska, Arizona, Colorado, Texas and Florida.
Her Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. (MT)., Friday, March 9, 2018 at
Liewer Funeral Home in Wauneta, Nebraska. Interment will follow immediately at
Riverside Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her parents.
A memorial has been established in Reta’s memory.
