RICHARD JOHNSON
Richard Carl Johnson completed the 87 year journey of his earthly life, being called to his heavenly home on January 13, 2023. Richard was born in Orchard, NE on March 24, 1935, to Ivar Jr. and Susie (Hasson) Johnson. The middle child of 5 children, Richard grew up in the Royal/Neligh area and graduated in 1952 from the Neligh High School. After graduation he moved to Imperial, NE with his family.
Richard married Jean (Baldwin) on June 3, 1956 at the United Methodist Church in Imperial, NE. To this union three children were born; David, Susan and Carol. Richard served in the United States Army, stationed in 1957 at Fort Sill in Lawton, OK. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1959. Richard was a member of the American Legion for 52 years.
Planning for his future, Richard went to Denver Barber School in 1961, becoming a licensed barber in 1963. He practiced as a barber in Imperial, NE for the next 55 years. In addition to barbering, one could also find Richard working on a clock when there was no one in the barber’s chair. Richard was an active member of his community. He was a member of the local Jaycee Club, the Lions Club, and served on the local planning commission. Richard was baptized in the United Methodist Church. As an active member of the United Methodist Church, Richard served on various boards as well as taught 4th grade Sunday School, teaching each of his children. In his younger years Richard played baseball, and later volunteered as a baseball coach for David and a softball coach for Susan. Richard enjoyed his opportunity to be a rancher after the death of his father-in-law, Perry Baldwin. One of Richard’s favorite pastimes was golf. Whether it was playing a round before church on Sunday, or entering a local tournament, Richard enjoyed his time on the golf course. After the kids were gone, Richard and Jean enjoyed traveling to numerous sites across the United States with sister and brother-in-law, Lucille and Burdette Bauerle, and family friends Jess and Joyce Bernard.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Ivar and Susie, his brother Byron, his sisters Lucille and Nettie, and his brother-in-law Bob Willats. Those left missing him include his wife of 66 years Jean Johnson; son David (Jill Lee) Johnson; daughters Susan (Bart) Goddard, Carol (Marlon) Kunnemann; grandchildren Alex, Kyle, Ayrika Johnson and Colton Lee, Zach Goddard and Elizabeth (Jesse) Landry, Perry Vetter, Abbigail (Kendra) Vetter-Brown and Sydney Vetter, Amber (John) Alvarado, Miles Kunnemann and Kayla (Ben) Washa. Great grandchildren Marcus and Justin Landry, Dutton Vetter and Ellery Brabec, Evan and Emerson Alvarado, Olivia and Addi Washa; sibling Kathryn Willats; brothers-in-law Burdette Bauerle, Clinton Nordhausen; and many nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday Morning, January 19, 2023, 10:30 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church of Imperial, with Pastor Debra Copple officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Wednesday afternoon, January 18, 2023, 2:00 P.M. -6:00 P.M. at Liewer Funeral Home, Imperial.
