Robert “Bob” Bartlett
Robert “Bob” LaVern Bartlett was born December 3, 1916, in Malcolm, Nebraska, to George and Ocie (McClure) Bartlett. Bob grew up in Max, Nebraska, and graduated from Max High School in 1934.
Bob was united in marriage to Ola Marie Roper in Gunnison, Colorado, on June 20, 1941, and to this union three sons were born: Richard Alan, James Edward, and Randy Lynn. The couple lived on a ranch near Gunnison for a short time before moving to Max and in the spring of 1942 Bob was drafted into the U.S. Army. In October of 1945 Bob was honorably discharged from the Army after serving at a radar station in the Panama Canal. He and Ola then settled in southwest Nebraska.
Bob first worked at a radio repair shop in Gunnison for a short time, and then after moving to Nebraska, he worked on a farm near Max. Bob farmed for 10 years on the Monte place north of Benkelman and later farmed with Everett Alsbury for 20 years. After retirement Bob moved to Imperial and in March of 2013 he moved into the Imperial Heights.
Bob was a member of the First united Methodist Church of Imperial, VFW, Lions’ Club and Square Dance Club. He loved reading, summer vacation trips, bus tours, card games and ping-pong. Bob especially enjoyed the annual winter trip he and Ola would take to Mission, Texas. Bob passed away Tuesday, October 6th, 2015, at the Imperial Manor Nursing Home. He was 98 years of age.
