ROBERT CAHOW
Robert Earl Cahow was born September 24, 1929, at Grand Island, Nebraska, to Rollin Homer and Viola (Stuhr) Cahow. As a young man he attended many different schools in Nebraska and Colorado through the 10th grade. Bob worked as farm hand starting at 13 years of age. He was drafted into the U.S. Army on July 26, 1951, and served in the Army Engineers until July of 1953.
On November 14, 1953, Bob married Mary Alice Greenlee at Raton, New Mexico. The couple first settled in Gothenburg, Nebraska. They later moved to Hardy, Nebraska, and then on to the Haigler, Nebraska, area where they made their permanent home. Bob had his own earth moving company and after several years he sold the business and purchased a farm near Haigler. Bob then began his employment with Chase County as the Roads’ Superintendent from which he retired.
Bob was a member of the VFW and the NRA. He also enjoyed gardening, working around the farms, and reading. Bob’s heart was broken when the love of his life Mary Alice lost her battle with cancer, then the unfortunate circumstances that led to the untimely death of his only child, Mark.
Thank you to his many friends especially Janet Sprague, who all helped Bob through those trying times.
Sam Cahow, Bob’s only grandchild, brought him great pride and joy. Bob would talk about all the things the two of them did together, until the next visit, and so on, “Oh my, did he ever love his grandson.”
Family and friends were very important to him, he was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need and the only thing he ever expected in return was simply respect.
