Roy Richard Wheeler was born October 14, 1934, in Grant, Nebraska, to John A. and Alta K. (Cary) Wheeler. As a young man he attended school in Grant, graduating from Grant High School in 1952. Roy served in the U.S. Army from 1954 through 1956.
On June 1, 1956, Roy, married Marlene “Joy” Anderson in Ogallala, NE, and the couple settled in Sutherland, NE. They later moved to Washington State, where Roy was employed as an electrical lineman and electrician for the U.S. Government. Roy worked on many government projects throughout Washington and the Northwestern U.S. He also served as member of the Kitsap and Grant County mounted Sheriff’s Posse while living in Washington.
Roy and Joy retired in Imperial, Ne, and were very active in the local Eagles club. Roy was also an active member of the United Methodist Church of Imperial, including teaching a young boys youth group presently. He also enjoyed woodworking.
Roy passed away Friday, February 21, 2014, at the Colorado Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado. He was 79 years of age. Survivors Include: Daughter: Tanya Wheeler and Husband, Dave, of Soap Lake, WA Wendy Evans and Companion , Antonette, of Imperial, NE Granddaughters: Danielle Evans and Taylor Sims Grandsons: Joey Evans and Jim Sims Sister: Velta Larsen of Glendale, AZ Sister: Bertha Hagen of North Platte Sister: Coleta Corey and Husband, Nick, of Silverdale, WA Sister: Vada Keesler and Husband, Harold, of Dowagiac, MI Sister; Wilma Sorge and Husband, Bill, of Holdrege, NE Brother: Larry Wheeler and Wife, Norma, of Oxford, MI Sister-In-Law: Charlene Anderson of Ramona, CA
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, and wife, Joy, in 2013.
Memorial service will be held Thursday, February 27, 2014, 10:30 A.M. at the United Methodist Church of Imperial, with Pastor Valera Heydenberk officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Washington State.
No Visitation, Roy chose cremation.
