Ruby Ham
Ruby Joyce (Blosmo) Ham was a twin born on March 28, 1923, at Seim, South Dakota, to John and Florence (Sickenger) Blosmo. She grew up and graduated from Lemmon High School in 1943. Ruby then moved to California and lived with her twin sister, Rilla. She worked at Lockheed on P-38 airplanes and became known as “Ruby the Riveter”. It was during this time she met the handsome guy from Nebraska named Donald Ham. Don and Ruby were married December 5, 1943, in California and to this union five children were born: William, Susan, Robert, Kenneth, and Sylvia. In 1954, they moved to a farm east of Wauneta. Ruby was a busy farm wife and mother that worked side by side with her husband.
Ruby was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She also worked many years in Job’s Daughters with her daughters. Ruby was a long-time member of the Wauneta United Methodist Church.
Imagine Ruby with her camera in her hands and making you smile for a picture. She loved her family very much. Ruby passed away Saturday, April 28th, 2012, at the Tiffany Square Care Facility in Grand Island, NE. Ruby was 89 years of age.
Survivors Include: Son: Bill Ham and wife Linda of Bullhead City, AZ. Daughter: Susan Dunn and husband Greg of Sioux Falls, SD. Son: Bob Ham of Max, NE. Son: Kenny Ham and wife Diana of Wauneta, NE. Daughter: Sylvia Hanousek and husband Roger of Cairo, NE. 12 Grandchildren: Barbara Hughes, Laura Ham, David Ham, Paula Gardner, Teresa Hall, James Melinger, Micheal Dunn, Christopher Dunn, Jeri League, Erica DeLeon, Don Hanousek, and Ryan Hanousek. 10 Great-Grandchildren. Brother: Mearl Blosmo and wife Lois of Spearfish, S.D. Sisters-in-law: Kathleen Ham and Eula Ham of Benkelman, NE.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband Donald in 1996, her parents, twin sister Rilla and husband Harrison Miles, brother Ted and wife Harriett Blosmo.
Funeral Services will be held Monday afternoon, May 7th, 2012, 2:00 P.M. (MT) at the United Methodist Church of Wauneta, with Pastor Bonnie McCord officiating. Interment will follow at the Benkelman Cemetery, Benkelman, NE.
Visitation will be held Sunday afternoon, May 6th, 2012, 2:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M. (MT) at the funeral home in Wauneta.
A memorial has been established in Ruby’s memory.
