Schelly Magnani

March 3, 1965 — March 26, 2025

Benkelman

Schelly Magnani was born on March 3, 1965 in Stratton, NE to Sheridan and MaryAnn Magnani.  Schelly passed away peacefully in her home in Benkelman, Nebraska, on March 26, 2025, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer.

Schelly was a devoted mother, loving wife, and passionate horsewoman. She is survived by her beloved daughters Jamie Gierhart, Whitney Haller, and Anna Haller; and her adored granddaughters Charlotte Johnson, Victoria Haller, Elizabeth Haller, Mary Dionne, and Harlee Haller. She also leaves behind her husband of 20 years, Terry Steinbeck, and his three children, who became a part of her extended family.

Schelly and Terry shared a deep and joyful bond built on love, laughter, and adventure. Some of her favorite pastimes were cheering him on at his drag races and traveling together — they made countless memories on the road, always finding joy in each other's company.

Schelly’s life was filled with love, creativity, and grit. She had a lifelong passion for horses and poured her heart into every show ring, always chasing that big buckle. Her many farm cats were her constant companions and a source of joy. She had a talent for crafting beautiful, one-of-a-kind jewelry and a gift for baking — her cakes were not only delicious and beautiful but full of heart.

She worked at the Linda Maiden State Farm Office, where she shared her days with her daughter Anna. Though her career was diverse and full of life, her most cherished roles were those of mom, grandma, and wife.

Her strength, humor, and kind spirit touched everyone lucky enough to know her. She will be missed more than words can express.

A private service will be held at a later date.

Cowgirl up.

It’s what Schelly always told her daughters and granddaughters — a reminder to be strong, stay brave, and keep going, no matter what life throws your way. Her legacy of strength and love will live on in them forever.
